digital temp gauge install

Was tired of relying on my original oil temp gauge and for cheap money I installed a USA intellitronix with sender that came with the gauge and a 27mm anodized piece that I used on the oil line between the cooler and the oil tank and it works quite well. Got both on evilbay. I went with green face because they say it is sunlight friendly but may be too bright for some peoples taste and colors are white, red, blue, green. I grounded the anodized piece because it came with a threaded screw but don't know if it is a must do and I tired both + and - to the alt gauge next door. The only difficult part was running a wire from the engine bay to the cockpit for the sender wire to gauge. Others might want to consider this and I am glad that I did the install for piece of mind.

Gauge goes up when the thermostat opens up to correct temp I believe.

The problem is that it is not the oil temperature in the engine so it is of little value.

The gauge goes up to 190 when the motor is hot so I believe that it does. The hose is attached to the end of the oil cooler and oil would be circulating through the oil cooler once the 180 degree thermostat is open. Am I wrong in assuming this?

That hose is the feed into the oil pump from the tank. That hose end on the cooler is a straight pass through to the pump. You will essentially be looking at oil tank temps with that sensor in that location.

That digital gauge could be reading 15* or more cooler than the oil in the engine. Cross check it against the original gauge, if it still works.
