My dear departed heater blower fan
Well, I tried my best on this one, but it was not to be. I began with toasted brushes and had a hard time finding anything to fit. I finally found a set of Bosch drill brushes that worked. I filed them to fit and soldered them on the old pigtails. Then the front bearing went south. So I got another front plate, but it had a shot bakelite piece. So I drilled out and transferred my bakelite piece to it. Finally, I thought, a reliable motor. But no.
Here are a couple of pics of the debacle, spread out on my drier. The first is a kind of overview of the way we do business here. The second is a detail of the failure mode. Note how one of the contact tabs on the commutator has come off. Could be from overheating. This probably caused the one brush to rip itself and its associated piece of bakelite right off the face of the front plate. My soldering job held up though! ianc ![]() ![]() |

You're fighting a losing battle trying to repair that POS OEM motor.

There is an inepensive motor at Graingers you can fit to that fan but it does require some fabrication. A search might turn something up.

I have a nice blower motor and housing off of my '88 3.2 that I would be willing to sell if you need one...
