ebrake question

hi everyone! I need help! I have been F$#%$ing around with my ebrake for three days. here is the problem........
I ajust the cables and then when I pull on the ebrake handle I feel tension and around four clicks on the handle the thing pops apart. one I go past the fourth click its like something comes undone (0 tension) I then return to check everthing out on the rear wheel and everthing seems normal. I have tried and tried the only thing that I can think of is the cables are streched. I bought the car without functioning ebrake. any suggestions? is common for something to go wrong with the handle? I have the bently manual and its description is pretty weak. someone please help........ thanks

i had some issues with mine because the cable housing wasn't staying square to the calipers and falling out of the slots. i simply zip tied the cable houseing to the trailing arms to keep them in place. is it possible your housings are binding, then falling into place, consequently losing tension?

Check for the correct fitment/orientation of parts 36 and 37 below

I believe that the picture above is from a turbo brake assembly. Here is a picture of my set-up from a set of '87 Carrera suspension. The mechanism that spreads the brake shoes apart is different from the picture.

Like Britain says, that gizmo probably doesn't produce the symtoms described. I'm gonna suggest looking at the 1 into 2 cable yoke in the tunnel and make sure everything is equal and slightly taught. Could be that once the 5th notch of pressure is applied, one of the cables slips into the yoke thing and then slips out again when you release the lever, only to get caught until the pressure comes. If one side is not working, the other won't either, if there is a problem in the tunnel.

I hate the tunnel.
