Help interpreting PPI
If you saw my other thread about the 15" fuchs, here is the follow up. I got the results of the PPI and I need some input on how worried I should be. Three areas of slight oil seepage. Are these good compression and leakdown numbers for a RoW model? Any input will help. Definitely original paint and condition. Thanks.

As a follow-up. This is an 85 Carrera RoW with 103k. Been in US since 85. Third owner, etc.

Sounds like a typical '85 Carrera. No serious problems in that report.

Good numbers. The oil seepage . . . well . . . pretty normal. Buy it if the price is right.

Sounds good, but no comments on clutch, transmission, suspension?

Thanks for catching my oversight on the clutch, tranny and susp. I called the shop and they said they took it for a lengthy, spirited drive and did not hear or feel anything that caused concern. No grinding, noise or other common issues on these cars. They said they worked really hard to come up with any issues at all and the seepage they mentioned was only a light film of oil around each spot and absolutely none leaking down the motor on onto the ground.

Closed the deal at a fair price, I think. I fly down to pick it up on Friday with my daughter and then do the 11 hour drive home. Now I just have to get through tomorrow!!!!!

Those oil leaks may be slight, but the rule with oil leaks is that they never get better. If you drive the car more spirited than the previous owner, this may be all it needs to get those oil seeps to become spraying leaks. How do I know!? My car was leak free when I got it and by the time of my first track event, a year later, I used a gallon of oil in a day!
![]() Seems like it is too late now, but I woul do your wallet a favor and use this PPI to work on the price. Ask the shop how much they would charge to get the engine leak free. Then offer the owner of the car to split that cost. That will give you some extra $ if you really have to get in there and fix them eventually. Just my two cents. Otherwise the PPI reads great. Those compression numbers are very good. Did you have the studs checked or do you assume that the compression numbers would reflect broken head studs? Overall, the car sounds very solid and I am certain you will be very happy with it! George |

Did the seller say anything about oil consumption? My SC was in excellent shape when I checked it out, but once I got her home and really started giving her a workout, a lot of hidden issues made themselves known.

Rick,
He claimed it was about a quart per 1000 miles or a little more. I anticipate some issues and that doesn't scare me. I am just crossing my fingers that nothing major surfaces. Ladd |
