What is this for? pic

While ripping out my old interior in my '79 SC, I found this wire with some tape on it. It is bundled with the heater fan wires shown still attached to the heater levers. The car did not have power seats, but I am installing power seats. Could this be a the factory wire for the seats? I wonder with the crappy tape job though.

(the wire bundle that supplies the seat belt and heater light are not shown in this photo, but were intact and working)

Just a WAG but is it for the emergency brake light switch indicator ?

It might be, I did not see a place to connect it to on the e-brake assy, but it could be. The PO removed the brake warning light bulb assy in the dash, so I never thought the e-brake assy was part of the warning light circuit.

On my 912 years ago I thought my oil lite was on and I panicked, than I realised my emergency brake handle was not down all the way causing the dash lite to illuminate. Owners manual straightened me out.

But hey, I could be wrong as it was years ago.

I think it,s the switch that powers the blower in the rear of the car.

could it be the seat belt warning sensor wire that goes to the seat?

Tim Hancock 02-23-2005 10:03 AM

There is a seperate wire harness not shown that hooked up to the seat belt flexible receiver stalks. I will see if I can figure it out with the Bentley manual tonight. I just thought maybe it was a common item and that someone on the forum might instantly recognize it and save me some time. No big deal. Thanks anyways guys.

It is the aux. heater blower motor wire. The blower mis mounted in the engine compartment atop the engine.

If you look down under the heater duct handles you'll see two small copper contact tabs. When you pull up on the handles, the tabs make contact and run the blower. Most likely they are covered with 25 years of lint and sticky cola residue.

Optional automatic climate control hook up?

Tim Hancock 02-23-2005 10:54 AM

Leland, the yellow wires are hooked to the heater handles which turn on the fan in the engine compartment and it worked fine just for the record.
I think Pete might have nailed it with the optional climate control (which mine does not have). The wire in question is red w/ white stripe (keep in mind I am color blind).

Just dug in there today. The yellow wires are from the contacts under the red handled heater levers to turn on the rear blower. The brown wire goes under the cad colored emergency brake base. You will see a little tunnel at the rear of it, on the passeneger side of the rear mounting bolt. [right above your thumb in your picture] Once inside, it plugs into a contact for the emergency light indicator.
