what is this sunroof seal called?

Hey Guys,

I can't seem to figure out what part this is, and as you can see, I need a new one. This is for a 79SC. Thanks.

Usually referred to as a seal or gasket.

(psst... weld it shut, will never leak again )

Edit: just checked the PDFs from my $8 CD (buy one if you can), looks like they call it a "velvet strip" 911 564 191 00 but you should double-check that.

Thanks. I realize that it is, indeed, a seal. I'm having trouble identifying the part number.

It looks like this is a
Velvet strip 911 564 191 00

That strip should be in two pieces, on in the front that continues on the sides and a separate one on the back edge

The one on the back edge is
Velvet strip 911 564 193 00

I *could* be wrong ( Pet pic is not that clear )

OK that's two of us who might have it wrong....there are also front and lateral 409-00/01 parts but they don't seem to go all the way around.

Mebbe us jokers might be right.

Yep two pieces. Not sure of the Part #s though. Parts Search isn't working.

It looks like those 409-00/01 parts are 'under' the sliding roof, not 'on the side of' the sliding roof. But, as I said, the pet pic is not clear.

Here, which part do you think it is and I will give your the part no..

I'm betting on velvet being the key hint, as the ones like in the photo are fuzzy. Just don't want to steer anybody into getting the wrong part, what you said about two pieces jives with a second velvet strip (50 in the drawing) 911 564 193 00

The drawing really does not help a lot. the 409 parts are above the first strip we named in the drawing. The velvet strips are at bottom left and top right, you'd think the drawing would show them closer together.

Yep, 17 as selected in the PET screen and 50 at upper right are the velvet strips. 15 and 16 in the PET image are much clearer than on the PDF too, they definitely look wrong here.

Hope that helps!

Just so that we are all on the same page,

part numbers given ( 191 00 and 193 00 ) refer to 17 and 50, respectively. I would assume the reason why they are separated in the pic is because one ( 193 00 ) is attached to the sliding roof and the other ( 191 00 ) is attached to the car's roof.. ( which jives with the link that was given above.. )

Let's try this:

Question from curlesw:

"I need to replace my sunroof seal and PP seems to have two different types:

1) Coupe 'Velvet' Sunroof Seal, front & side, 911(1974-89) C-564-191-00 with Coupe 'Velvet' Sunroof Seal, rear, 911 (1974-89)
C-564-193-00

and

2) Coupe Flat Sunroof Seal on roof, 911 (1974-89)

I currently have the velvet, what is #2? rubber? thanks.

Wayne C
83 SC "

Answer from Magilla:

"It goes on the sunroof, in the back, and adheres to the underside (so the adhesive is "up"). This piece is hidden from view. It is really nothing spectacular, but your old one will likely just fall off with a little tug (like mine did). The whole project is very easy, and well documented in 101 Projects.
The worst part is keeping the 3M adhesive off of your fingers, clothes, hair, car, pets etc."

*************************************************

That said, I only replaced the two velvet pieces since the rubber piece was fine. Pics on how it fits up are on the first link I provided.

Thanks everybody!

I should have taken better pictures. The seal I need comes in 2 pieces, front and back, which I did not realize until looking a bit closer.

I'll order what Wayne has available, C-564-193-00 adn C-564-191-00. I'm pretty sure now that will do the trick.

Thanks again.
