What's my 3.6 Conversion Worth
I'm giving very serious thought to selling my 81 Sc 3.6 in favor of a newer car that I can use more often. I was thinking 996, but more research says I'm sticking with a 993 most likely. Anyway if I do this what's the 81 3.6 worth?
Some Details 81 SC w/ 60,000 on Chassis - no Rust No dent - never hit or wrecked - dead straight Paint - VGC 964 Engine - (91 post Head Gasket Issue) - professional install Plastic Intake Manifolds Rebuilt 915 - By Porsche Sachs power clutch Two Fender Mounted 44 row Mocal Coolers Light Weight fly wheel Cyntex chip Custom Stainless Steel Kenny McNiel Exhaust - $3,000 7" & 9" Polished Fuchs New Axels and CVs New Bilstien HDs Front New Bilstien Sports Rear New Front Pads New Front Brake Lines New front Rotors New front bearings New DME Relay All guages rewired - I hate old cracked wires - Makes me nervous All work professionally done by Dougherty's in West Chester PA Waiting for install Rebuilt Carrera Front Calipers New Carrera Front Rotors Turbo 22 & 20mm Sway Car was dynoed at AWE and pulled consecutive runs at over 260 to the rear wheels. I know this sounds aggressive...I take it to mean that it's running strong. I know I won't recoup anything near what's in it, but what do you think it's worth?? Jeff

22K Depends on how long you can hold out... maybe less. 964s are getting down in that range...sounds like an awesome car...how come you wanna get rid of it? I feel the tug of a 993 commin my way too...so i feel your pain.

I'm struggling with the idea of selling it, but I just don't get to drive it that often. Without rear shoulder belts I can't put the kids back there so if they're in the car I need the Honda. I don't drive it to work that much because while I like it, I often have to take customers or guests out and it's a little too "Hot Rod" for those who don't hang out here. What I want is a 993 to drive on the street and this to turn into a strict track car. Not an option though. We'll see. Anyone else want to throw a number out. I haven't seen any of these sell so I have no idea. Jeff

Once I'm in the market for a 911 of my own I'd seriously give your car a look. The only thing I'd be hesitant about would be the fact that it's a northeast car. Maybe I'm too particular but the winters can be rough on cars. Of course that is not having seen any photos.
The facts that it has a 3.6 conversion that sounds like it was done right and the recent maintenance items are certainly attractive. What color combination does the car have (I can see it is white on your little avatar)?

I'll post some pics tomorrow. It snowed today and it's a mess out there. I looked at a sweet 993 today..my car may soon be for sale.

mede8er- Ruby looks really nice! I really like those 9s in the rear.
An earlier car with the later engine would be attractive to someone like me. I only drive about 3000 miles a year so the extra creature comforts of the later 993s and 964s aren't that big of a deal. Having a relatively light car with the larger displacement of the later engine would be pretty cool. I won't be in the market for a 911 for a while but you should be able to find someone like me out there.

Sorry I haven't posted pics, but after driving several very nice 993s I've decided I'll keep my sc /3.6 for a while longer. The 993s were amazing. Great handling. They just didn't have the feel I wanted and I am spoiled with the acceleration of my 3.6. Mine is much faster than a stock 993. Great cars, just not for me right now.

mede8er.....interesting that your car runs much newer power unit, which'd imply that gearbox mounts are the same...??
Reason I ask, is that I'm toying with the idea of how to make my 87 3.2 into a Tiptronic..........I wonder how big a job that'd be.....? Would all mounts line up, and what about wiring..........???mmmm Better still, could I shoehorn all that into an even earlier shell?? Jcon......couldn't you just put the rear seat belts from a 3.2 into your car? My 87 has rear seats/belts, and was a major factor in my buying it...............it's much better than my Audi TT for rear accomodation for my 4+yr old and my 20mth old.......

Moses - It really does feel right. It may not be perfect for all occasions, but oh well.
GalwayTT - I could put belts in the back, but I would need to drop the engine and weld in mounting plates to secoure the shoulder belt. I should have thought of this when I did the conversion. Jeff

Better to keep it. One point of the selling price is that it would never be close to the amount of money you put into the car.

I to had considered selling my 3.6 conversion for a newer 993 or 996. I am wanting more of a daily driver but at the same time when I do get my car out I am smiles from ear to ear and boy do I get the looks when ripping by with the semi open exhuast note... g luck

As a guide, I was quoted by a specialist in the UK to do some work on my car, and they have a flat rate of £309 for removal/refit of a 3.2 engine. That's cheaper than taking a hit by selling the car whichever way you look at it............
