What's This Worth? - 70 911T Sporto

Check out these pix from Sunday's Pomona Swap Meet.

Spoke at some length with the guy about the car. It's been stored the last 15 years. He knows nothing about Porsche's. He is selling to recoup some money someone else owes him. Said he started it a few days before for a minute or two. Ran, but rough like Carbs gummed up ('ya think?!) No real prep, just hooked up a battery and used starting fluid (eek!). Oil had been changed about 5 years before in an aborted try at selling then (so he says). He is asking $8000 o.b.o. Rust shown is only easily detected from exterior. Thoughts?

Sorry for the poor focus on a few. The car's interior is worn but not torn up. Odo shows 00495. Gotta assume that has rolled over once at a minimum. Exterior is pretty badly faded, when you open the doors the door frames show more color...but does not appear to be a respray. Okay, that's it. Ideas? I have this perverse thought rolling around in my head about restoring a Sporto...had never really thought of that before.

Nice looking car. I love the color. The rust does not appear too bad from teh pics. Pan looks solid from the bottom. Any rust in the rockers, jack points, rear deck, longitudinals, rear torsion bar, etc?

Looks to have had some paint work on the pass side. This could be the cause of the rust on the pass door. I detect overspray on the rear bumper/quarter seal and the rocker trim seal.

Would be a fun town car assuming the sportomatic still works well. These can be really expensive to fix. The availability of parts is not so good.

I personally would go $5-6K but I am a low-ball bidder at heart. Besides, there is a lot that needs to be attended to to make it a road worth car. Brakes, suspension, fuel system, etc.

OBO says it all. I helped a guy sell a Sporto last year to a member on this BBS who did a little spot painting and clean up (and I mean a little ), and then flipped it for a neat 3K profit. My friend took 9K for the car and hasn't complained (yet). It was way better than the one above and the tranny worked great. The trannys can be a hassle and expensive to rebuild. There is a least one seal that is NLA in every respect. Not even an American counterpart.

Proceed as you wish, but you could easily get buried in that car. So far, I've manged to stay about even with the value of my car, but I started with more (an S) and bought for less. I'd rather see you spend 12K for a rough S than 8K for that T. It will cost the same to fix either. Just my .02.

With all due respect to Jamie, I think he is too high. These moteurs do not like to sit and 15 years sitting is a bad recipe!!! What is one of these worth running? How much to repair the rust and rebuild the power plant? What is this model now worth? Hate to think this could be worth more as a parts vehicle... I also wonder if there is not bondo lurking below. Did you run a magnet across the body?

This seems like a better deal to me. I'd sell off the conversion stuff or use it on a mid year car. Fiberglass bumpers in the manner of an RS would really do this car some good along with some 7 and 8 inch Fuchs, IMHO.
