How to paint condensor guard
What kind of black paint should I get to paint my scraped up and rusting condensor guard? Is there a particular brand you'd recommend? I assume I should remove the guard and wire brush it and spray paint it, right? (Wouldn't be wise to try to brush paint it while installed, would it?)
Here's the http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1109477989.jpg guard. |
I'm thinking of doing the same. I'd guess buying some Wurth from our host would be the right thing to use. Not sure on the prep, though.

Bump. Anyone else have experience or tips for doing this? Or should I just install a front spoiler and forget it?
Thanks. |
not an anal solution, but i used to use whatever black spray paint to paint the suspension parts on my old jeep cj5 and cj7...don't know why you couldn't just do similar. tape it off after wire-brushing away any surface rust and just spray...

I did this about a year and a half ago. I removed it, cleaned it properly, prepped it and primed it. It then received a few coats of Wurth black. It's now rusted worse than before I messed with it. I'm going to do it again, but this time I'm going to use POR15 products. I've had great luck with their products over the years.

Steve87-911. I would remove the condensor guard to paint it. If most of the paint is still adhered, I would prep it for repaint, by using Comet household cleaner And red 3M scuff pads. The Comet will remove all silicone, grease and oil contaminants, as well as give the surface tooth for the paint to stick to. Then use a self etch primer and a spray can enamel top coat of your choice. Dan

Just clean it and use rustoleum. That'll stop the rust...

I powdercoated mine. But you could brushpaint that crashbar and grille. It sure came out nice though. Don't paint the condensor fins.
I painted the loop ends with Epoxy appliance paint (black). I had it on hand. |
I had mine powdercoated as well. Looks like new.

I suggest putting a front spoiler on the car to cover the bar. If not, you can paint it all you want but, that bar is still exposed to road rash etc. and eventually the paint is going to chip off again and again...

Powdercoating is the way to go. The powdercoater must blast with beads anyway to prepare for the coating, and then he bakes the finish on at about 400 degrees. Final result is better and more durable than paint. And it is only about $25.
What more cold you want? |
I sanded it on the car to remove all the rust, then spray painted it black flat - rustoleum. I painted it on the car - just masked it off really well... It was an easy fix - two years later - still looks great!
