Well, just after washing/waxing the car, i went to get my bag out of the trunk and couldn't shut the hood. It gets past the safety latch, but then feels like it hits something hard and metal and i can lean on it and make it shut all the way with a bit of force, but it will not latch and stay shut. anyone have this issue? any tricks for now to get it shut? i'll go take a pick of the latch to see if there is anything funny...what an annoying thing to break!

well, it's shut....figured out that the actual pin was not getting beneath the latch....so i had to hold the latch open just a smidge for the pin to slip by....
anyways....i will appologise for wasting anyone's time with a shameless pic of my gleaming paint. ![]() ![]()

Can you now open the trunk lid?
Trunk lid sheet metal is not real beefy. It sounds like you shouldn't have had to force the trunk lid closed. Perhaps one of the gas struts decided to freeze up or something is blocking a hinge. Check it out as it doesn't sound "normal." Sherwood |

sherwood,
the trunk closed normally (w/o force) once i held the latch up. i think i have figured it out actually......the wax might have gotten down into the latch mechanism somehow and caused it to droop slightly when it is open which causes my problem.....fact was that i was trying to close the trunk lid ON the latch not underneath it. EDIT: oh yeah...thanks for the reply and the struts are brand new so i knew it wasn't them....

Hmmm. Oh well, as long as there's no potential damage.
Sounds like you're using some heavy wax (that blocks the latch) or the latch fell out of alignment somehow. Sherwood |
