Fender to cowl

When I paint 911 I want to replace fender to cowl seals. It looks like I have to remove, or at least loosen the fenders. Can anyone walk me through this? Thanks

You should remove the seal before you paint the car. If you leave the seal on you will have to use a sharp knife to cut the paint between the seal and fender and cowl.

Cool

I have seen two otherwise beautiful repaints but the cowl seals were left in place and painted over. Before repainting my -84 targa I decided to remove all trim and glass including the cowl seals.
I started by loosening the 4 allen head bolts, 2 per side, accessible when you open the doors. You will need a long extension and a universal joint.
The remaining bolts are hex head and are located as follows: top inside fender edge inside boot, rear inside wheel wells and inside drivers side gas lid. The wheel well bolts were a pita to get to because of undercoating.
Tried to upload a pic without success...

To do the best job you should simply remove the fenders. A little more labor, but then you get the fender/wheel wells painted perfectly, you won't have any trapped dirt in there painted over, etc. When you consider how easy it is to remove 911 front fenders, it just makes sense. I agree that painted rubber or plastic parts absolutely ruins an otherwise good paint job. Good luck!

One last thing... If you removed all of the bolts and the fender still wont come off easily.. MAKE SURE you removed ALL of the bolts.. I had one still in ( didn't know it ) and was cursing a blue streak..

Good luck
