Sounds good on paper. I've been burned by buring a vehicle from Flordia on E-bay. I'd bid up to $11K if you could have someone check it out for you first. Just my 2 cents worth....

To each their own, wrong mirrors, wrong seats, wrong deco trim under the doors, missing MFI, no records or history, RS Door Panels. Before buying check for rust under headlight buckets, under hood rubber, door sills, pans, batteries, under glass seals, rear suspension, etc., Who knows what is hiding under the new paint? What is with the Motometer tach? Florida is a long way from California. I would think your chances of finding a nice early unmolested 911 are much greater in your own back yard. Just my two cents

Looks like it's been made to look as pretty as possible for the sale. A $2500 paint job is not something to brag about.

I'd never buy ANY car without a galvy body from Florida. Skinny state with salt water on 3 sides? No thanks. I have enough family there to know that they don't buy their cars in state unless new...

These guys are pretty tough on the car but if you like it it is up to you. Call John Forbes at Black Forrest before you bid. He is an well respected guy and will give you an honest appraisal of the car.

the Tach was probably added because they could not figure out how to get the stock one to work with the crane box.
Heavy duty 915 transmission? 2500.00 paint? Trying too hard with too many other issues ........pass. |

$2500 will buy you a decent paint job in FL. Labor is 1/2 price there and EPA isn't as hard on them as e.g. in the Bay Area.
I second the rust concerns. Cars in the very south, at the coast rust nicely. In a different manner and not as fast as a Chicago car, but they sure have issues. I find that the rust often comes from the inside out - humidity helps condensation in confined areas. Add sea air to the mix and you can have a pretty rusty car. NEVER buy a car that you do not see yourself. Unless you have a very very good friend that you trust to look at it. Shops or PPI's don't count in my book. George |

Great advice everyone. You just see things like this and they seem tempting.

What happend on the right side of the engine? The oil pressure gauge isn't hooked up? And there is a big gaping hole in the engine tin, where the right hand heater duct is supposed to be? Both things are not only sloppy, but having no clue about oil pressure and loosing valuable fan air thru a hole are things that can mess up your engine in the long run ...

Last week BKolar sold his 72'T Targa with the 2.4 motor rebuilt with the correct MFI. Suspension was well sorted and upgraded. A very original car overall. It sold for $9000. The paint wasn't the best but it was a lot better car than this one. The main difference was the ad. Brian was very truthful and forthcoming. No fluff. I was going to bid on his car but I got so busy I missed the auction. Someone got a great deal.
This car is already $1000 more and not near as nice in my opinion. It's not original and fluffed with incorrect paint, has incorrect fuel system, trim. Original cars usually bring more money.

One thing I noticed - Targas typically show sign of rust where the bolts for the Targa bar and trim piece at the base of the Targa bar go through the quarter panel. You can see in the side shot photo that the area has been repaired, but they did not remove the trim piece to do it properly, and left the old damaged/painted gasket under the trim.

Doug's rule on buying a car on Ebay:Never do it! exceptions: you have personally given the car a thorough inspection and the seller let your chosen mechanic do a PPI.
