Well, in simple terms no. It depends on the smog tech. I have heard of some who have not passed the visual based soley on having a K&N air filter which is not CARB approved. You can find smog techs who will overlook the headers as long as you have all the other necessary stuff. In my "friend's" case this means that he leaves his smog pump on all the time and just removes the hoses going to the air injection spyder and cat. Every two years "he" pulls the fabspeed muffler and reinstalls the factory cat/muffler and diverter valves and hoses(takes about 2hrs at a leasurely pace). The solenoids that control the diverter valves were ditched when the Kokeln was installed so a vacuum hose connects the two valves on either side of the engine compartment and route convincingly to the back of the engine. The engine passes with flying colors with just the cat doing it's job. These are the results from passing this past friday in fact:
15mph @ 1276 rpm: HC(ppm_) max: 114 measured 35 CO (%) max: .73 measured : .32 NO(ppm) max: 785 measured : 368 25 mph @ 2071rpm HC max: 88 measured: 14 CO max: .61 measured: .36 NO max: 724 measured: 229 At the very least you will have to throw your old cat back to pass the visual. |

Your car could be a smog particulate sucking vacuum that removes all the nasty stuff out of the air and replaces it with pure springtime fresh clean air and it wouldn't matter. In California if you don't pass the visual, you will fail before they start your car.
