Raising spindles

I want to raise the spindles on a set of Koni struts...
Is the spindle only welded to the strut at the big hole (B)
or is it welded some place else as well?

Anyone know what the smaller hole / dimple (A) is for?

It might have been a machine locator, but it doesn't do anything... No need to mess with it.

I thought I read that this is not an option on the Konis because of the way the strut body necks up?
