Paint Project - Day Two - More Paint Stripper
Well, after a quick trip to the sandblaster to blast a few details on the fenders, it was back to the garage.
4 hours later and I've got almost all of the paint off the rear quaters and the rear panel and hood jambs. Tommorow I will do the front cowl, windshield area, and door jambs and do a quick cleanup before it goes to the body shop bay. Regards, Andrew M

That's alot of hard work! Ironically enough, I spent most of the day today stripping wallpaper off plaster walls in my house. Not fun, either...

nice progress! be careful with that stripper. i know a guy who was using it to strip the interior of his car and ended up in the hospital. he then sold the car as a roller.

Some dumb questions. Obviously with large areas of the car naked for days or weeks, there will be some surface rust forming. Do you do anything about this before giving the car over to the painter? If so, what? I assume the surface rust would be very minor.,Would just wiping down with a metal prep of some kind (which?) be enough prior to the painter priming with (I assume) an etching primer? Then what comes after the etching primier? What are the likely steps for a very good up-from-bare-metal paint job? Incidentally, are all the jambs, hood/trunk edges, interior surfaces being painted at the same time and are you stripping those too?

Can't wait to see next pics.
Question: How much are you expecting to pay for the paint job? What type of paint will you use? Thanks for the inspiration!!

Hi Andrew,
You are not alone, I am stripping my '70 911 T back to metal. I have been concentrating on the panels. Have stripped the doors, bonnet, front fenders, and deck lid. Doors are now in the paint shop. I've used a wire brush on the end of an angle grinder to get into the difficult areas inside the panels. Just about to start the shell. When I wheel it out of the garage I will photograph it and post on this thread. It is nice to know I'm not alone in this respect. Happy graunching to you!! Keith.

Hi Dan - Sorry, I thought I had responded to this, but I guess I didn't press submit. I sdid strip all the door jams etc - It took quite a while! the steps I'm taking are:
- Strip to bare metal - DTM Epoxy Primer - High Build Primer x 3 - Block Sand - Prime - Seal - Colour In between each step is lost of cleaning, blowing of dust and tack clothing. Mario - One of the guys in the shop I'm at is going to spray the paint that I supply for $100-125 Keith - Keep at it! I found it took quite a while (1.5 days) to remove all the glue and gunk in the weather stripping channels. Regards, Andrew M
