Vent Panel Removal-Stuck!!

As you can see from the photo, the face of the vent panel is broken ('78SC). I want to take the panel out to repair and clean/lube the cables. But, the panel will come come out, it is being held up by the electrical connection on the far right side.
Any suggestions?

It's very likely being held by the very cables you want to clean and lube. You'll have to remove the cables from the fresh air blower in the luggage compartment. It' a pita , but doable.Dan

The three cables are unhooked from the luggage compartment (and yes, it was a real PITA).
I wonder if they need to be unhooked from the vent panel itself?

The cables are held to the firewall by a three nippled grommet. It needs to be pulled through the firewall. then the cables should wind there way thru the maze of wires .Dan

You have to unbolt the assembly behind the dash..

The cables need to be disconnected as well..
Then follow the cables to where they go through the firewall into the cabin.. push the rubber grommet through the hole so that the cables can pull all the way out..

Then, once the heater controls are unbolted, the whole assembly will be allowed to pull out the front of the dash.. Just be sure to feed the cables through as well...

push the assembly hard to the left to clear the wiring on the right. it's a tight fit. leave the cables attached to the unit.

One last thing-
The wires on the right side are soldered to the bracket! From there they go directly into the wiring harness. No slack at all to pull free.
I know you can buy the control panel new. Do you have to resolder the connections?
