Need new tires...

I'm putting 7 & 9 X 17 Fikse's on my mostly street SC. After searching the forum, it looks like Bill Verberg and a few others think 235/40 and 265/40 should be about right.

I don't want to be filing down control arms to stuff these things under the fenders. Am I on the right track??

Also, the wheels will arrive this week, so I need to go somewhere to get the tires mounted and balanced. Who could I trust to mount the tires without scratching my new wheels? I want any wheel weights mounted on the backside and to have the wheel clamped on the back if possible. No way I could get this done right at Costco, huh?

I bought S-O3's at Costco. They did an excellent job mounting them. I specificaly asked to have the stick on weights appied to the inside only. And since the inside of my wheels (Fuchs) are painted white I did not want to grip the inside. Instead the machine grabs the lip of the rim and does no damage.
They also fill the tires with Nitrogen. Not sure that is as stable as they think. The first cold snap my tires lost 10 psi. Of coarse they air them up while you wait.

Moses, I've got 7x9x17 Cup IIs and spacers on my 84 with 225/255 Kumho VictoRacers, mainly for street use.

I was running 205/255 Pilot SXs prior to this and the front felt light. I think anything bigger than 225 and the steering will be very heavy.

You may want to consider 225/275 with all that power out back.

My $.02.

Which Fikse's are you going with?

Do the 225's feel heavy for street driving?

Moses, I personally prefer 205/225 for street driving, the 225 fronts do feel heavier. On the other hand, I have a 3.0.

edit: If I were buying any wheels with a custom offset like fikses, I'd buy them to fit the largest tire I wanted to put on the car for the track. I'm a track guy, though.

I have 225 on the front and 245 on the rear with my 16x8/9.5 combo and do not find the 225 heavy. But my car is a fairly light.

The 225s feel heavy in very low speed maneuvering like parking. Anything over 5 mph (a guess) feels great, very confident.

Thanks folks! Anybody see any problems getting 265's under SC rear fenders?
