Idiot Questions, first round.

ok, where do I find the original paint code on my freshly repainted, recently obtained, incorrect colored Carrera 3.0?

Anyone know available colors for 1977? This loooks like it WAS a silver, maybe with a greenish tint or slight yellow tint?

Also, anyone know if the 964 cam upgrade is sensible on the Carrera 3L (like the SC?)

ok, that's enough idiocy from a front-engine wasser-pumper for now!

The paint code is on the passenger side fender, in luggage compartment. No experience with the cams, but a lot of people seem to be running them. Dan

Open the drivers door and look at the plate on the frame. If you are sitting in the seat, open the door, and look at the frame, as if looking at the front tire. You'll see the plate on the door frame. The paint code is on the bottom portion.

Looks like it might be this

266-9-3 Y8Y8 Ice Green Metallic

Found this reference in relation to 76 model year. I'll double check my Porsche bibles when I get home.

Peter Morgan shows Ice Green Metallic (266 Silver Green), a special order body color beginning in 1976.

copper 03-01-2005 10:20 PM

Okay, Red Book shows it as a 1974-77 model Special Order color of Ice Green Metallic, as we've stated above.

However, this specific color, according to other sources, was not available on these models until 1976, so it will only appear on factory correct 76 and 77 models. It was not continued in 1978 and on.

Superman loves his 20/21 cams in his street SC.

Ron is correct. I am madly in love with my 20/21 cams. My SC makes 174 lb/ft of torque at the wheels, which is about 205 at the crank, which is pretty good for a motor that is specified at 174 lb/ft at the crank. But I do not thing these cams increased peak hp. I think they made the torque curve look like your kitchen table. The power band is broad and useful everywhere. The dyno guy stared at the torque curve printout and insisted that it is a V8 curve. My job site has a parking garage with spiral ramps. One turn per floor. I crawl up those spiral ramps in second gear (this avoids exhaust resonance) at 1000 to 1200 rpm, and power is smooth and strong even there. I'll stop my rant here, but yeah.....it's fair to say I like these cams. They are also sometimes referred to as "964+" cams.

I sent my 3.0 cams to John Dougherty to weld and grind to 964 specs. They are awesome. I had Webcam 20/21 in my Carrera and I'm pretty sure the SC pulls a lot stringer, though that may have to do with the SSI's too.

I did the 964 cams on my 3.0 powered 914/6....BIG improvement....
