1966 911 pics
Just wanted to take this opportunity to post a couple of pictures of my completed (5 yrs.) project, and see if there are any other 66 911's in the area, Santa Cruz, CA. Car was delivered in Bavaria 1966, factory elec. sunroof, euro gauges, gas heater, ect. Oh and rust. Thought I would never finish. Sorry about the quality of the images, they were taken with an inexpensive digital.

Total driver, 6mo. from now there's gonna be rock chips all over the hood and hot rubber stuck to the back bumpers.

Lovely looking car. Congratulations. The early green dials and walnut dash strip are wonderful. Curious if you ever had on this car or considered in your restoration the original, perforated steel wheels.

Are you sure you want the ugly details? Car had more rust than I originally thought. New floor pans, front suspension pan, lower rear window corners, left rear quarter panel had been changed, pevious accident? Ah. should I continue? rockers had been replaced, I'm suprised there are any of these cars still on the road. Anyway after all that was done car was stripped and painted light ivory. Motor rebuilt to original specs. put the sport muffler and the Fuchs on it to try and give it the bad guy look, kinda hard to do with a white car, also lowered a bit, New Bilstein sports on the corners and....I think I gotta go drive it right now.
Cheers, Matt

I LOVE that car. Especially the heater: "Like sitting in a meat locker with a blowtorch on your ankle!"
Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the compliments. Not sure about the sport muffler, just got back from a quick drive, the dogs have'nt stopped barking, and the second time around the block half my neighbors were at their doors, it really gets loud when the mains come in, not sure I can live with it...well I can but with respect to the neighborhood, I may have to do something different, any suggestions.

It's nice to see an early 911 owner doing what the 356 guys have always been doing. I can't count how many conversations and postings that I've listened to and read about how early 911's aren't worth restoring.
And you're driving it. A guy in our club Nord Stern drove his 66 to Sebring from Minnesota. I've put 12,000 miles on my SC since April '04 and I still haven't put it away. Hopefully I'll have my T back in service this spring. Good job.

Yea, there was once or twice I thought to myself, what in the.....are you doing restoring a car that is so common, but I like the simple classic features of the very early 911's, and I rarely see these cars on the road. I also like the way it drives, very uh....raw, requires your attention and not too many comforts. Hope to get some track time in it.

Very nice, I like it a lot!! It has the subtle OG look, sleeper, with a few tasteful mods (seats, rally lights). As someone else said, love the wood dash with the green gauges.
Do a search on this board for "retrosc" and his bahama yellow '67, that one is too cool too. What a toy! I want one! Mike F Chicago |
