Does this wire need plugged in?
 

Was admiring my work on the recent installation of my fuel accumulator (checking for leaks) and noticed a wire thingy that was not connected. Looks like it plugs into the other wire thingy just above and behind it in the photo. What is it for and should I plug it in? Runs fine. Excuse the ignorance but I am just getting started in DIY.
If I plug it in would that qualify as my third project?

Looks like the power wire for your electric heater blower...

Exactely . Look further back in the photo for the female half of it.

Thats why it might be disconnected. I was told the motor needed replaced, Heat works ok after about a mile or 2. Even in 5 below!!

Mine is also unplugged.

Should this blower work after the ignition is switched off? I plugged mine in and the blower worked on and off after I parked the car. I didn't know if it's supposed to run like that or not, so I unplugged it again.

On my 82SC the blower works only with the ignition on and at least one of the heat control levers between the front seats on. It doesn't cycle on and off.

Screw it, don't plug it in backdate the heat and loose that 2 lbs.

If you're in CO, you'll definitely want heat and defrost and this little motor is the turbocharger for your heat. Plug it in and you'll see a definite heat\defrost improvement immediately!

Diffinently one of those "If it had been a snake it would have bit me." moment. :)

I think I might agree with masraum, the heat could be backdated.

The blower motor helps push heat only during low rpm times like idling. If you backdate you aren't eliminating the heat , you'll actually have more heat then you are use to because a non functional heater blower is an obstruction in the heat path. Once you remove it the engine fan pushes heat more directly into the cabin, especially as the revs increase.

It also cleans up the engine compartment and makes the car lighter changing your power to weight ratio!!!

You'll be hotter and faster!
