930 1/4 mile video clip???
A while back someone had posted a link to a 930 that was running 10's in the 1/4 mile.
Can someone please repost that link for me. Looks like I have to settle an argument with some old V8 buddies. |

Yes Juan is currently "the" guy but, there was another guy from NY in the late 90's that was running ..............get this..................high 9 sec 1/4's with a 'street-legal' ride.
I only have two pics, but they speak for themselves. If anyone has more of this car/guy or video clips please let me know. To me it f----ing ROCKS!! ![]() ![]() ![]()

I've aske Juan a few times, but I just don't know why no one lightens these efforts. Again, I'm not talking a CF Civic that is only a shadow of its past, but the usual lightweight you find on here all the time. Every drag racer knows that weight is the enemy of not only the ET, but also the parts. Running 10's at 2400lbs would require so much less stress on the axles than doing it at 2900lbs. That alone would be worth almost .5 sec in ET and is surely less expensive than hp. 700hp in the CF coupe would really fly
![]() Now this has nothing to do with Juan's efforts. Just a generic question: Why do the VW's launch so well and run so quick? This is not a smart a$$ question about weight (regarding my above comments), more about what they are doing suspension wise.

A lot has to do with class rules and a LOT to do with $$$$. You can only go so far in a unibody car. If the car is in a real street class it has to have DOT approved glass, tires, state Inspection, wipers, etc. You could acid-dip the body, carbon fiber panels everywhere but then you get into big money.
I believe the NY guy (from the pics above) had a tube frame back-half car which was later ruled illegal as the street class rules evolved. Also if you don't believe that car was going into the nines, look at the parachute on the rear. If you run quicker than 10 secs you are required to run a parachute.

Juan may very well chime in here, but I believe I read a post of his where he noted that he has to ballast his car by several hundred pounds in order to play in the class he does. So, it appears he's running 10s and adding weight to his car. I'd love to see what it would do if he lightened it!

asphaltgambler has it right. I am pretty sure Juan was having to add weight as it was for his class. Also, the car in the picture was a guy named Eddie Bello.

Here's Juan's ride...
![]() and yes - he's had to add weight. Seems the rules really favor the Supras and their fat a$$ 3200 lbs...

asphaltgambler,
Interesting story I read about the guy from NY. He ended up going to jail for stolen parts. He and another shop appeared to be stripping cars that someone else stole or something like that.... He had a couple of motors without serial numbers on them when the cops busted them. Lost all of his sponsorships and I think they took his car too. Crime really doesn't pay.....

Well, regardless how he got the parts he had one bad-ass car IMO. It's a shame he ended up that way 'cause it's clear he had a handle on making a p-car run in the 9's

I understand class rules. Just really didn't think that 911's fit into class racing in drag racing. I drag race too, but didn't realize cars like Juan's or for that matter the sum of "Horse Power junkies" here race any organized "class" racing.
For that matter, I don't know how you'd get a 911 to be legal to go faster than 9.9 by NHRA rules. Getting that IRS to be legal would require a whole reworking. I'm not sure of how they'd even view the gas tank in front of the firewall in a non drag chassis. I guess I'd just like to see these cars optimized fully and not just hp dumped into them. I'm not short changing their efforts, just curious to see a 2200lb Turbo with dog ring'd trans with a multi disc'd clutch on DOT radial drag tires with a four link type locator in the rear to replace the spring plates.

The guy from New York is Eddie Bello. He sold that car and built an really trick tube frame car which was stolen. From what I remember he was not prosocuted for the bust in New York.
The car in the picture eventually ran low 9's at 160 mph+ and printed over 900 to the rear wheels on a dynojet. I think I have a few pics of the car which was stolen. I will post them.
