Squeaky front hood?
Hello, and thanks in advance for any help. My front hood is making squeaking noises from the latch and also the front right area of the hood whenever I press on it. On the road, that translates into occasional weird squeakiness. I just had the front right suspension lubed, so squeaks that were coming from there are now gone, but i've still apparently got some coming from here!
I saw in this post: Suddenly squeaky SC front end that someone mentioned a 'hood adjuster' that might be able to take care of these things. Does anyone know more about that? Or is this the kind of thing that I should be using a little grease or WD-40 on the latch for? I don't want to cause problems opening the hood, so I imagine that isn't the best solution. Thanks in advance for your help!

I think you're hood latch is adjusted too 'loose'. If its like the engine latch there is a threaded adjustment on the hood latch pin.
Take care to not adjust too tight though. Your hood may not open any more! |

I recently put a new set of bilsteins on my car and on the first drive a terribly annoying squeak showed up. My wife looks over at me and rolls her eyes -- a silent comment on my mechanical skills. I thought it must be related to the shocks or suspension. One day before a drive, I pushed up and down on the front bumper ... squeak, squeak, squeak. Then I raised the hood and pushed on the bumper and the squeak was gone. I repeated this cycle a few more times trying to locate the squeak which sounded to be coming from the passenger side of the hood near the windshield. Then I started looking at the pushbutton switch for the luggage compartment light on the passenger side hinge. The metal plate that it rests on when the hood is closed clearly showed signs of rubbing. I put a thin piece of rubber on the metal plate, closed the hood and went for a drive -- silence! I've since put a very thin peice of adhesive felt on the metal plate and the car has been silent ever since.
Not sure if this is your problem or not, but I was amazed at how much noise this was making and how long it took me to diagnose it.

Yea, my hood does the ssame thing.
I've never taken the time to adjust it, I just spray it every three months with bicycle chain lubricant, the teflon stuff but I like the thin rubber approach. Very creative. |
