Todd,

I'd love the templates. PM or email.

doozer 03-07-2005 10:29 AM

Ok, I will try to get them scanned tomorrow and I will post them on my website where you can download them.

I goofed up and covered my lower seatbelt hole - I will have to locate it and drill...

masraum 03-08-2005 06:39 PM

Too bad you couldn't put some flanged holes in that plate which would add strength and lightness.

It does look great, though. I often dreamed about similar stuff on my targa. Glad to hear it worked.

Now you can have 150+ mph sex and have added (side) protection:p

Genius! - More surfaces for leverage and more safety!!

Maybe I should now shoot for 160? :D :D :D

masraum - flanges look cool , is that leading edge ofa wing?

Dont have a flange press for 3/16"

I think we under-estimate how much flex is in a cab/targa.

Interesting anectdote: I recently installed a full cage in my 911. My flex test was to stand on the door sill next to the leading edge of the door opening (doors open), bounce up and down and watch the clearance between the windshield and head tube of the roll cage. I was still getting flex after welding gussets between the dash and cage, about 1mm of movement, so I ended up welding the top of the windshield to the cage.

widebody911 is very correct!

cab/targa's are VERY flexible in the door opening, a while back I saw a street crash of a 911 where it folded in the middle - that really freaked me out.

I plan to add at minimum a 4 point roll bar and most likley a cage - I just dont want to interfear with opening and closing my cab top or using my back seat.

I sound whiney :D

Don't ask for much, do ya?

doozer 03-09-2005 09:05 AM

I checked with Autopower and they make a 4 point "street" roll bar ($269) that will not affect the cab top and seat movement. They make it out of 1.75 x .120 ERW but for $40 more they will make it out of 1.75 x .120 DOM.

They dont have a cage that will clear the cab top so if I want that I will just bend it myself.

Thinking of that it would just be smarter to do it myself anyway. I have a #3 on they way with 1.75 insert http://www.jd2.com/

BTDT, although I didn't buy one, I just borrowed a friend's. Welcome to the steep learning curve of tubing bending!

What material are you going to use? Now is the time to review the GCR's, just in case. I used 1.5" A513 DOM for mine.

Chuck Moreland 03-09-2005 11:27 AM

"Street" roll bars are basically just for show. Without a diagaonal they provide little protection in a roll-over. Unfortunately it is the same diagonal the kills the back seat.

KobaltBlau 03-09-2005 11:46 AM

what do you guys think about removable diagonals? seems like as long as the fastening is done right they could be very good.

Craig 930 RS 03-09-2005 11:57 AM

Who sells that removable diagonal??

I need the back seat on occasion for my daughter -

Dutchie 03-09-2005 12:04 PM

The safety devices cage comes with a removable diagonal. The sticker on it says it,s only fia approved with the diagonal installed so Chuck was spot on :)

Cheers,

Isn't that dangerous for heads and such.

Craig 930 RS 03-09-2005 12:39 PM

Remove for kid use - replace for track use
