Lightbulb Silverstars

Has anyone else tried the new Sylvania Silverstar bulbs? I installed a set in my everyday driver...... I was amazed!!! The difference between the high output halogen on one side and the silverstar on the other side convinced me to get a set for the P-car. In my test between the 2 types last night the halogen looked orange and dim compared to the silverstar, these things are flame throwers! Had to do some hunting to locate the H6024ST type bulbs that our P-cars take, but I found them. They are quite pricey, $19.98 each, but there is a $5.00 dollar rebate on them at Advance Auto Parts, where I finally located a set of them. What I like about them, no altering the housings, wiring or sockets, just change out the entire bulb. I will find out how they work maybe tomorrow night.

I put them in the 318 since I do a lot of country driving. I did notice the colour difference, but did not see any real difference in the coverage. Maybe just me.

I'm with Tim. I noticed a color change when I installed them on my daily driver Audi A4, but no difference in total light.

That being said, you may notice a difference in total light if you are replacing very old bulbs with new ones period, as I've read that the light output for bulbs actually falls with age.

I did a strickly unscientific test, I parked approx. 700 feet from my closed garage door, straight and level to the door, the silverstar totally lit up the door on the side it was installed in, while the approx. 1yr old high output halogen didn't even reach it. So I installed the silverstar in its place, and the entire door was lit up very brightly. I am still impressed with these bulbs, wish I had found out about them sooner, next will be the H3 carrera fog light bulbs with silverstars.

I put a set on my 89 carrera targa today and they work great. I got them at Advanced Discount Auto Parts but the part number was different than the on you mentioned - 9004 ST/2. I had the parts guy double check to see that they would be a match for my vehicle. Wonder why the difference? When I took the car out tonight everything looked great except for the fact that now one of my fog lamp bulbs went out!! Now it's back to the parts store for the H3 Silverstar replacemts as well. I will let you you know how that goes.

by the way... German-made 130watt (!!!) Narva bulbs are cheaper from Daniel Stern's website than Sylvania Silver Stars in AutoZone.

I don't know...maybe it's just me, but all the ones I've used really sucked...well then again I've only used the 9004 versions.

bcheney, the later 911 carreras used the composite type headlamp, with the 9004 bulb, while most of the earlier 911 used the 6024 style sealed beam bulb. That is why the diff. part #. So far all I have tried were the 9006 and the 6024 style silverstar bulbs, but I am very impressed with them, wish I had changed out sooner.

Silverstars make a very nice and economical upgrade for stock 993 H1 bulbs. But I didn't notice any difference when I put them in my SC's H4's.
