He's getting close I beleive he said a few would be done in the next week or so, I have been in contact with him several times lately with questions - He says he thinks he's found a seal that will work, but is still trying to solve the latching issue.

I talked to the molder this afternoon; he's been backlogged and the weather hasn't been helping, as he can't do gelcoat indoors. He's hoping to make the mold done late next week, but I've been hearing that for 3 weeks now. I'm workin' it as hard as I can.

I have samples of seals that look like they'll work for the top-to-body interface, still researching latching options.

I was sort of wondering about that top latching part of the endeavor. I will likely sell my original top, and the latches will go with it obviously.

Thanks for the update!

I feel your pain, dealing with these fiberglass guys. It seems like they always have an excuse why the stuff isn't ready. You just smile and say well, I hope your {fill in the blank} gets better and you can get this work done.

Every time I drop by his shop, no matter what time of the day, he's working on something, so I have to cut him a little slack.

Now that I've dipped my own toe in the world of fiberglass production, I have a lot more respect for the guys that do this for a living. It's a very detailed, time consuming, exacting process. I've been up until 12:00am - 2:00am for the last week trying to get the heater duct molds done. I spent 6 hours last night just gluing on flanges. I've spent every spare minute of the past week working on these, and every time I walk out into the shop, I'm plauged with self-doubt about how they're going to come out. We'll see.

BTW, there's been a few posts RE: shaved rain gutters these days.

I'm assuming these tops won't have rain gutters. Yes, no?

I'm interested in the top also, and would appreciate it if you would let me know when you are ready to make them available.

Thanks.

Just found this original hardtop up for grabs on Ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7959654530&category=6783

$4000 and you have to do a local pickup in Italy - Ouch!

I think I am going to stick to my manual droptop.

Judging by his eBay handle, he'll likely trade you for a Rolex

I was at the shop yesterday morning - the mold is still in progress.

I'd love to get my hands on an original top, and $4k isn't that bad given what the other repros I know of go for, but the shipping would kill me...
