Targa Newfoundland
This is going to be my longterm goal for the 911! Talk about carrying a wheel the 5 series that won the classic had more day light under its tires than I could have ever imagined. Makes you kind of want an old Bavarian to beat on.
Yes, there is a nice 911 to carry's our colors and does rather well, but driver error takes it out of the win that is eventually battle won by another BMW. Are there points given to off track excursions or simply time? Does anyone know how the points are dealt at rallies like this?

By the way this is being shown on Speed Channel! I guess I forgot to mention the significance so that others can enjoy.

I was just watching this morning on Speed also. I never heard of it before but being a Targa owner, I would love to join in one of these years. I saw 2 911s running.

That winning '72 BMW Bavaria 3.0 is just as much a Bavaria as Jack's BB2 is a '72 RSR.
If I remember correctly, it has a '95 M3 engine/trans and the underpinnings from a '88 535is (including complete rear subframe and grafted front 'clip'). All is fair in 'vintage' racing. E |

Hey, glad to hear you guys like the event! I was the one that went up to Newfoundland this year with some very generous assistance from our host.
The event is simply amazing. Where else in North America can you go at break-neck speed from town to town sliding through turns and hammering down straights??? If you think the driving is incredible, the people and atmosphere are even more so. There is something about doing an event where everywhere you go there are screaming fans cheering your success as well as your misfortunes. I can still hear the roar those kids made as we made it out of the ditch after hitting a spot of gravel in a blind turn. Amazing stuff!!! To be honest, I am now completely hooked. I have already started my planning for the 2005 event and will be taking a team of cars up. My goal is to offer the planning and event "trackside" assistance to some that might otherwise not feel comfortable with going. If anyone has any questions about the event, please feel free to contact me. As I said on the Speed Channel special: It is a ride of a lifetime. jholzman@carolina.rr.com Thanks again for the interest! Oh, I know how to win this event now.... you might think BMW had an edge last year...I have a much better idea as to what I am doing and I am going with a much different car. A 911 will win soon enough.... muuuaaahhhaaaaaa. SCWDP......
