Guess I'll do the intro thread with pictures as well.

Alrighty, here's me and my car. I'm 26 and in the Army, stationed in Hawaii, and my car (my first Porsche) is a 1978 911. It's in great shape, and just hit 38,000 original miles. I love it, I feel this is the car I was born to drive. It's a 3 owner car, the first owner bought it in San Bernadino (or however you spell it) and put about 1000 miles per year on it for 29 years, then another guy bought it and put a few miles on it, and upgraded to 8 inch wide fuchs in the rear, braided stainless brake hoses, drilled rotors, resprayed it the original color, Momo steering wheel and shift knob (not a prototipo), and a nice CD player. I recently added a Bursch exhaust, changed the oil (wow that's a lot of oil in this thing) and I'm fixing the few little tidbits that need fixing. My plans with it are to return it as stock as possible. I love driving it, but it's such a nice, low mileage car, that I feel I should preserve it. In about a year I'll be moving to California, and I'll get something else out there to drive around, but this is my baby that I want to take good care of. I'm pretty knowledgable about cars, but completely ignorant about 911s, so this is definitely a learning process, owning this car. Anyways, lemme throw some photos in here. Here's my car the day I bought it, which was just a few months ago.

Here's my car up at north shore

No oil leaks, either!

Nice. Welcome! When you get to Ca, you don't need to by another car. We'll let you drive this one.

I recognize your Targa from rennlist. Glad you found your way here.

Oh yeah, love the car. The silver paint and wheel centers tie in well with the silver anodized trim.

Welcome.

Question....... You say the PO did a respray. Was the entire car painted? Reason I ask is that the RF fender appears to be several shades darker than the door and hood.

Nice Targa buddy! Driving it in Hawaii would be a hoot as well! I was there back in the 70's and there were some nice roads and photo opportunities there.

i'll bet the door was painted off the car. Metalics in the paint layed down differently.

For some reason, my edit did not show up in my post above. I didn't mean to sound so blunt. I wanted to thank you for your service to our country and compliment you on a solid 911!

The entire car was resprayed. It wasn't the best job, they didn't even get into the door jams, that paint is still original. The paint looks great from about 5 feet, but up close you can see some orange peel and places where the original paint had a chip or something, and it wasn't sanded down to bare metal and smoothed out before repainting, so it's not perfect. I think this next week I'm going to start color sanding it. It'll give me something to do, and the car deserves a mirror-like paint job.

Oh and Milt, don't give me wrong, I love driving it! The first week I bought it I put over 500 miles on it! But it has such low miles, I feel it would be best to 'preserve' it in it's low mileage state. My fingers are crossed, when I get up to Monterey maybe I can find a 70s 911 with a solid engine but needing some cosmetic restoration work for real cheap. If so, I'll snatch it up in a heartbeat and drive the wheels off of it! Hell, I don't even really care if it has an interior. A steering wheel, some gauges, and a seat, that's enough for me. As long as I can drive it. The price will have to be cheap though, as during my stay in Monterey I'll be saving for a wedding, honeymoon, and hopefully getting stationed in Germany.

Thanks for all the compliments everyone.

Hey bryan. I've been lurking for a bit, just never really felt the need to post much. All hail the great search function. One of these days I won't be working on a weekend and I'll make it to another PCA meeting, I swear.

VERY NICE!! Welcome!!

It does look like the door and the hood are lighter than the rest of the car that can be seen. The right front fender looks like a match to the right rear and to the windshield wiper cowl. Good luck with it!! Tony.

I'll be moving to Monterey. I love that place; I want to retire there. Just gotta save my pennies. And I think the difference in colors is just the whole metallics looking different from certain angles thing. In person it's all the same color. Either way Monday I'm looking forward to color sanding it.
