1. Intermittent Wiper Repair, 2. Heater Not Working

I have a couple questions on my '79SC and was hoping this forum may be of some help

1. My intermittent wiper used to function, has anyone had this problem before?

Also,
2. The heater console between the seats does not work. Has anyone had any experience with this type of repair?

In advance, thanks for lending your expertise!

Smitty

For the intermittant wipe try gently pushing the wiper stalk away from you and see if they start working. Also twiddle the variable knob side to side for a bit to clean the contacts.

In order to fully understand the heating controls and be able to perform diagnaostics it is advisable that you take a degree in electromechanical engineering and study thermodynamics in your spare time.

BSME, Minor in Thermo Didn't Help

That's funny, specially considering my Mechanical Engineering degree and my complete lacy of understanding!

IIRC (I rarely drive the car in the rain), the intermittent wiper is controlled by a reostat knob on the right side of the dash. The wipers must be in the OFF position. Full left on the knob is off; turning right will adjust the frequency of the wipers. If the wiper lever is on, the intermittent wiper action does not work.

the intermittents won't work if the wipers don't park on their own. the parking contacts in the wiper switch may need to be tweeked so they contact each other when the switch is in the off position.
