No such thing. You should only have the one wire from your coil to the distributor.

There is a small braided ground wire from the dist body to the plate on which the points are attatched.
Is this what you mean?

Jeff, good thought. I just assumed he meant a wire hanging on the outside of the distributor.

Since we have no clue what year car is being referenced here ... it is hard to say for sure!

But, all '69 - '77 Bosch CDI installations had a ground braid strap/shield that ran from the CDI-unit to distributor body, and also to the coil!

The schematic section below clearly shows the brained ground straps:

ground wire

sorry, the car is a 1975 911s 2.7l with cis and a msd in replace of the original porsche capaitive discharge setup.

maybe that is why the wire is not connected?

Hi,

I have a mystery ground wire and this post basically described, but I still can't tell where the wire is supposed to connect. Here is a picture. Can someone tell me where it is supposed to connect to? Is it possible that I cut that wire when I installed the Pertronix? I don't remember.

Thanks!

Neil,

The ground strap originally had a large 'ring' style terminal lug [and a oversize M8 flat washer fit under it] on the stud that clamped the distributor body in place.
