Targa Tops
Had an interesting thing happen last weekend. Took the top off and found that one of the fixing bolts was stuck and had come off of the top. Looks like the threaded plate and the bolt for that matter are stripped. What's the best way to get a new plate into the frame of the top? I plan to have the top recovered this summer so if the answer is cut up the top to fix it that's ok. Just wanted a little direction first.

I think a picture or two will help this thread.
Do you fold it all the time, or just rest it on it's edge on the back floor/hump?

I'll get some pic's tonight. I have been folding for now as the former owner has don that enough to have the vinyl wear though. The pin or "fixing bolt" Pelican part number c-565-074-40 is the one on the front driver side.

tops
Here are the pictures. In one I am pointing to the pin that is in the top of the car, the other is of the targa top. I can see a silver plate behind the folding bar but wonder how you get a new one in there.

I have my Targa with me today. On my lunch, I will go take a look and see if I can help at all. Also, add the year of your car to you signature under options as their might be subtle differences between the various years as this might help someone better diagnose the situation.

You might be screwed - don't be alarmed.
I'm just thinking that the plastic nipples and metal prongs for the front edge are NOT avaliable on my 1977. This is your leading/front edge, right? Might be time to get yourself one of those fancy fiberglass one-piece tops. Then again I think even with those you have to re-use the frame and little parts. Unless you get some heavy hits on this thread this weekend you may have to get on the phone and call Pelican direct, and or some of the other aftermarket suppliers.

There is an aluminum block that the pin threads into and its impossible to remove without taking the whole top apart (AFAIK). One of mine is stripped out so I don't run it, the other pin is plenty good enough to align the top to the frame.

I think I can get the parts from Pelican. I just want to be sure I really need to tear the top apart to get at it. I plan to have it recovered this summer so maybe I'll just cut it open and fix the pins and take it to be recovered.
