Repairing My Fuchs

I am in the process of sending my stock Fuchs off of my 88 Cab in for restoration - the repair man told me that I could restore the rims any way I wanted. Full Chrome - chrome rim/black centers - etc. All for the same price

Any ideas?

Don't do chrome. Have them polished if you want shiney.

I second the anti chrome. They will look nice for about 2-3 years then start bubbling then peeling. No matter who plates them. I specialize in refinishing Porsche wheels and can refinish your set if you would like. Not sure if shipping would bend the deal out of scope. Repair can also be done. Please feel free to drop me a line. Thanks, Alex

How Much

I'm in the same boat, need to get my rims looking new again. How much does it cost to have them polished and what is the maintenance going forward?

I just had all four of my Fuchs repolished and painted by Weidman Wheels. A clear powder coated was added which makes them clean up well for a long time. They re-did the stock lug nuts and handpainted the crests on the wheel caps. I paid about $700 plus shipping. They did an excellent job

Smitty, I charge $85 per wheel for semi polished (polished spokes/lips w/black recesses) and $110 for fully polished. Turnaround time is about 1-2 weeks. I can polish the center caps as well for $10 each. Maintenance is about the same as for the finish on your car. About 3-4 times a year hand polish using Mothers Mag and Alum Wheel Polish. This will remove and spots, small scratches and keep a protective film from water stains, etc. Minimal maintenance. Thanks, ALex

Alex, can you do the frosted RSR finish where the originals were anodized?

The closest I can come is by machining the surface then clear powdercoating. Otherwise, I can do them by media blasting then spraying a clear. Alex

Bello,

Do a search for Al Reed Polishing and you will get many ideas of what the polished look vs. the chrome vs the black inside/polished lip. I just had mine done with the black inside/polished lip/center caps hand painted and they came out absolutely incredible.

Al Reed in Anaheim, CA did the same to my wheels, but he did 5 wheels for $600, including shipping costs back to me! I couldn't be happier... He didn't paint the crests, but he polished them to match the wheels...
