Mines Road Tour on the 12th ??

I led my cycling club on a 60-mile ride on Mines Road, today. Two groups of P-Cars passed us. The first group about 10am., with about 16 P-cars. Mostly 911's plus 3 Boxsters and a Bimmer. The second group came by about 11am with 10 P-Cars and 1 F-Car. Anyone on this board enjoy the twisties on Mines Road today?? I was with a group of 11 cyclist. Both groups must have turned on Del Puerto Canyon, as we stopped at the Junction for a food stop and no one was there.

The sun was out and it was about 78 degrees. Great P-Car weather and made for a great day of cycling

What? There are other P-car groups who know about Mines Rd? I wish I knew who they were so that we can get together with them sometime.

The road is in great condition, except for the 2 places that water still flows across the road. So in the 30 miles of twisties you would have to slow down twice as you drive across the 3" deep path of water crossing the road. The two very small streams are about 10 feet wide. The rest of the road is fine. Besides the Porsches the regular Cafe racers on their BMW motorcycles were out.

One of those cars was me!

It was the annual PCA-GGR Yosemite Tour. We had a total of 22 cars, I believe, and did split into two groups leaving from N. Livermore between 9 and 10am. The only two non-P Cars in our group were the Ferrari 328 and a silver WRX wagon. That Bimmer must have snuck in along the way to try to ride our coat tails.

I was in the white '86 cabriolet in the second group. I hope we were polite to you folks on the bikes!

Cheers,

Dean

Hi Dean,

Thanks for the reply. Those were the two groups I saw. I didn't look at my watch so was guessing on the times. I remember the Ferrari and now that you mention it, the WRX Wagon. The Bimmer, Blue color, was hanging on to the back of one of the groups so must have been a wannabe

I remember seeing the Cab. (blue top??) at my age the memory cells have started dying Let's test Deans' powers of observation. I was riding a red Torelli road bike and had a white & blue jersey on, that read "Campagnolo" on the back. I think you guys passed me on some twisties so you may not have been reading the backs of cycling jerseys.......

cheers,

Not being a road bike guy, I'd probably have a tough time telling the difference between your tricked out carbon fiber rocket and the local kid's Huffy with the banana seat...

I'm color blind, so a lot of those bikes and jerseys looked the same to me. We had to stop, regroup and go again a couple times. Did you ever pass us while we were stopped? And yes, you are correct that we headed down Del Puerto Canyon.

BTW - my cab's top is black. At least that's what people tell me...

Dean
