Smile Busy in the garage...bolt-on Wilwood 12" rotors

well, I broke my promise of keeping my car bone stock

started with this:

to get this:

for calipers I'm going to give some RX-7 aluminum 4-piston units a try....36mm bores...not as nice as Big Reds or Boxster calipers, but they are dirt cheap

am I going to be hating life with the Wilwoods? How do they fare compared to the Porsche OEM rotors??

Looks awesome.
How do you plan to mount the RX7 calipers? the bolt spacing looks really wide, do you know what it is?

cool... I was wondering how well they would work. At least now we'll have some first hand experience. Make sure you keep us posted about them as well as what kind of driving you do and which pads you use.

I always thought that if they can stop heavy NASCRAP cars, they must be doing something right, but then again, they replace them often. We'll see the longevity of these compared to Zimmers.

What's the spec on the rotor? Carrera sized 24mm x 12"? What about the hub? Do they stock it or is it special order?

FD RX7 rotors were 22mm thick. Wilwood makes a 25.4mm rotor, but it would be a bit too thick for the FD caliper anyway. Maybe it's a 20.6mm rotor?

I also have to correct myself, Carrera rotors are not quite 12" diameter...

If it's 20.6mm, that's not much increase in the capacity, just more clamping force from the calipers... they are pretty beefy and *appear* like a Brembo design too.

these rotors are 12.19" X .81 thk, Wilwood does offer them in 11" diameter as well as thicker to better match the Carrera like RallyJon mentioned.

The spacing of the RX caliper is ~6.25 CL to CL, by going with the larger diameter rotor, making an adapter is much, much easier.

Changing the centerline/offset of the rotor is another solution, but there are other issues to deal with then as well........

What is the advantage of those Wilwoods?

oh, that's one of the most common rotor sizes from American manufacturers. 12.2" diameter, and due to its thickness, it's commonly referred to as the "810" rotor. What kind of master are you planning on using and what's in the rear?
