Ride height question

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1110821608.jpg

From what I've read the rear ride height should be 16 mm plus or minus 5 mm.

I assume that older cars can be a little lower. Mine is approx. 2 mm. Time to worry?

Thanks,
Kees.

I never could get the A-B-C diagram to work in real life for me....

If you look at the factory manuals, it generally states that older cars can sag something like 5-15 mm ( or so) from "new" ( either front or back) and still be considered OK. Someone here can confirm as I don't have the manual directly in front of me. My recollection as it was stated in the alignment/chassis section of the workshop manual...

FWIW, my Haynes manual (only thing I have at work), says 12mm +/- 5mm.

I could have sworn that my '76 had a specified measurement of 19mm, with the wheel center being *above* the torsion bar center line. I haven't looked at that number in years, though...

I definitely wouldn't worry about a measurement of 2mm, though.

Mike:

I think he's asking about the "spec" value of 16mm , actually being 2mm as measured....

Agreed though, probably OK....

Kees:

What model year is your car? There is a common convention that says if you're using normal tires of about 24.8"-25" rolling diameter, the fender lip height-to-ground measurement for the rear should be about 25". Due to the difference in the fender cut outs...this measurement is about 25.5" for the front. This is what is commonly taken to be "Euro" ride height.

rear ride height

Hi Wil,

My car is a 1985 911 carrera coupe (euro). 215/60/15 tires.
25"= 63,5 cm
I will measure it.

Thanks,
Kees.

215/60-15 tires are about 25.16" rolling diameter ( 63.9 cm).

All else being equal, that would make the fender lip measurement a bit higher....maybe 0.2 in ( 1/2 cm) higher........

Wil
