Heater/Fresh Air/AC questions

79 SC w/ factory air that works.

I do NOT have automatic heater control.

I've read the owner's manual, etc, other posts here...

Have questions about the heater/fresh air control on the dash.

On the dash, I have only one lever on the top, not 2, but the manual says that cars w/ factory air only have one lever on the top so that seems to be ok.

One question, the top lever will move back and forth only on the left side of the slot; it will not move all the way to the right into the zone w/ the 3 fan speeds. So I don't have any fresh air fan at all.
Don't even know if the fan works. I don't want to force the lever too hard and break something.

Is this the way it's supposed to be? I can't tell from the short description in the owners manual.

Thank you.
Tom

No. It should move over and turn on a fan with 3 speeds I believe. My old 83SC worked this way. If it hasn't been moved in a while the lever is probably frozen or stuck due to corrosion or something. If I remember correctly, mine was difficult to move when I first bought the car but loosened up as I used it quite a bit. Good luck.

The cable that runs to the flappers in the fresh air box are probably in need of some lube.

Do a search. There's plenty of info. Good luck.

My 78 has the same setup..top lever moves from left to right going from passive fresh air to the 3 speed blower, (that is noisey as hell). Sounds like you need to lube and/or maybe adjust the cable that is in the trunk behind the fiberboard cover (remove the carpet). The fresh air blower is the big black cakedish in the center and the single cable controls the amount of flow from closed to wide open.

Thank you, I'll try looking inside at the blower and cables.

Strange my old 74 and my current 82 SC Targa has two (2) levers at the top. The right lever controlled the speed of the front blower motor.

I was confused too, but Owner's Manual says that ('79 at least) with factory air there's only 1 top lever. 2 levers like yours w/ no AC...
