911 seat mechanism jammed

I have a small problem and am almost embarrassed to ask it here: my front passenger seat mechanism seems jammed all the way back (after my 6'6" brother sat in it) and I can't move it back into position (actually, to fit a rear-facing Graco infant seat into the back seat). I am driving a '96 911. Before I rip the seat out -- or worse, bring it to the dealer -- I wanted to know if anyone has had this problem before, and if it can be easily solved.

I haven't needed to do any work on this car to date (ok, I changed the spark plugs, wipers and tires), and the only real car experience I've had was a complete rebuild of a '72 914. Is this what I think it is: the seat mechanism has simply moved all the way to the end of the threaded bar and is now off the threads, and must simply be "worked" back onto the threads? Or is it a more sinister problem? I am pretty sure the car has all original parts, including the seats.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I apologize if I missed any prior posts, but I searched reasonably extensively and didn't see anything remotely relevant listed. Also, is there some sort of diagram anyone recommends which shows how this seat mechanism works?

Thanks for the help.
