ghl cat converter question
Any Help on this would be much appreciated
Last month I bought the stainless cat from Pelican made by GHL for my 87 carrera.. LONG story short- The 90 degree bend on the CAT just misses the lower shock mount and rubs on the shock - the paint is rubbing off. Has anyone else had this problem? I believe that the rubber shock mount has also deteriorated due to the intense heat. GHL is supposed to make first class stuff right? I have contacted pelican repeatedly, sent pictures, etc and continue to be ignored. thoughts anyone? ![]() |

Funny this should come up as I just now removed my CAT to install a bypass pipe. Found out my CAT is gutted so I'm going to reinstall it as is.
I did, however, notice that someone flattened one tube of the CAT at the bend where it passes by the shock. Looks like it was crudely done on the fly. oh, and while the exhaust was apart, I had to start it up and rev it! ![]() ![]() |

I just installed one last weekend. I went out and shook the car a little and I really don't think mine would ever hit the shock. It does seem to get pretty hot, but I think it has always been that way. I called ghl just to verify that there is no additional heat shield necessary. After a drive I can still stick my hand inbetween the wheel and the cat without it being a burning hot so I wouldn't think it's any hotter than before with the big heat shield. Also having read your post before my drive I made sure to touch the shock and it was just a little warm not hot at all.
