Not Running Right after Tune Up
 

My recently purchased 911 needed a tune up, so I purchased a tune up kit and Clewett plug wires from Pelican. I did my valve adjustment, double checked the adjustment, double checked the gap in my plugs, changed the oil, replaced the dist. cap, rotor, and the plug wires. The plug wires didn't seem to fit all the way in. I researched the Clewett's with the wonderful search button but I couldn't adjust the rubber boot on mine. I felt the snap when the connector snapped on to the plug. I also found a hole in the vacuum line going to the advance on the dist. and fixed it. I plugged the line going to the air pump. I rechecked my plug wires and everything is correct. The car didn't idle as smooth as it normally does, but it wasn't really rough. It kind of had a "put put put put" to it. The car didn't buck, but it just didn't have the power. I turned around and brought it back into the garage. I also might add that the battery was a little weak as well as the car hadn't been started in about a week and a half. It acted weak on start up. I'm resting on it tonight, but I figured I would toss it up for you guys opinions. :confused:

Did you check the timing? suck on the advance line on the dist to make sure it's advancing the points plate properly?

I just checked all of the plug wires and they were connected. I removed the dist cap and inspected it. I found that it looked like the rotor was rubbing the top orange portion of the cap and not on the contact for #5. It had light scrapes. This may explain the lack of power and "putting" engine sound because #5 wasn't firing. Back to the garage to see what to do about it.

I realized that I didn't quite have the rotor on yesterday when I was installing the distributor cap so I believe that is where the light scrape is from, so I'm back to square one. Should I be paranoid starting my car with a non firing cylinder or miss?

I fought with my Clewett plug wires today and I couldn't get them adjusted to seal around the valve covers. I couldn't adjust them off the plug and I don't want to push too much with the connector on the plug. I'm stumped. I'm ready to start enjoying my 911!
