Ignition Problem
 

Ok...1983 911SC. Car turns on just fine, drives just fine. Will not turn off just fine.

Once running, I can rotate the key back to center and take it out of the ignition switch...without turing the car off.

I now have to pop the the clutch in 1st to stall it out. The dash lights remain on though and will, if left as is, drain the bat down to zero.

Is this a simple ingnition switch - Electrical Portion only replacement? Pelican part number M-613-012-00 listed as $52.00 or am I looking at having to replace the entire assembly ($351.75)?

I also have a vintage 1980's alarm that requires one of those old round pin keys, which I do not have. Relative to my ignition problems, the alarm tried to sound a few times as I monkeyed with the under-dash wires and kill switch, which did nothing to kill the car. As this fine anti-theft deterrant system is wired into the ignition, might this also play a role in my woes?

Ideas? Suggestions? Comments? Jokes?

$52 is the right part. You may be able to do this without removing the $352 assembly.

Tried it...still no luck
 

Ok, I pulled the ignition switch and replaced it with the new one. With the harness and ignition switch mated togther and hanging free I can start the car using a screw driver to turn the switch. The problem persists though...even with the new ignition switch, I can rotate the switch back to the off position, but the car continues to run.

The only other thing I can think of is that this problem might be related to the early 80's after-market alarm that seems to be wired into the ignition harness and 3 other wires????

Any suggestions? Could it be anything else? Thanks.

I know the turbos had a delayed ign cutoff on the eng compartment firewall (drivers side) did the SC's have them too? Book says open diode may give trouble.
