The $10,000 Question.

Well Folks. My car was rear ended. Cosmetic damage. Pics are in the cars for sale forum, as I am/Was trying to sell the car.

Anyhow. Insurance is giving me Approx $10K USD to fix the car. (Ok they arent GIVING me the dough, but thats what the claim is at the body shop.)

Looking for opinions and Ideas.

- Should I fix the car as is. (Keep it as an SC)(The car is not 100% original as it sits)

- Update the car. (C2 style)

- Backdate the car

- Turbo Body the car (SC, C2??)

- 959 body

- Some other body kit??

Remember, all of the above would cost me little to no money out of pocket, so cost isnt much of a consideration.

The car is in good shape, with all the damage in the back end. Most of which is the bumper, spoiler, and decklid.

I am a "customizer" kind of guy. I am not the "purist" a lot of you guys are. So I am leaning towards something like the 959 kit or some other "exotic" look. Has anyone done a 959 kit?

How about links/pics of kits and whatnot you like....

Any real information would be appreciated, as well as opinion and downright criticism is accepted as well.

Thanks

Backdate - I think that will be most marketable in the years ahead, and pretty fun to have, too...

I voted for stock SC, but here's a suggestion. I would replace the bumpers with fiberglass. The IROC tail is a bit much for the street, but a Carrera tail would be nice.

Unless you're going to upgrade the engine, the turbo body is the fiberglass equivalent of a sock in your speedo.

Go ahead, pretend you have something that you don't

I voted leave it stock but I'm one of those people who don't like to modify cars

I thought about that. There are lots of guys like you out there Sammy. But of course the car has been already modified somewhat. (Corner Markers removed, repainted, etc)

So Its not like I am starting off with a completely original car anyway. And hey. I like pretending!

I'd back date it. You would lose some wieght and have better performance. Plus a long hood is way cool.

Yep, that was meant tougue in cheek. I guess I'm not very good at internet body language. I did the winky thing but it lost something in the translation.
My last three Porsches were a turbocharged 2 liter 914, a V8 914, and a turbocharged 911 SC. I don't know how to leave anything alone.

It all boils down to personal prefference and resale value.
If it were me, I'd do a 993 twin turbo S body conversion and give it enough power to match.

DavidI,

Man, I love that car. Don't you live in my area? I'd love to come take a look at it in person - especially since I've got a black cab myself.

Backdate it. Make it a custom "early RS" look. You'll look cool (custom), you'll lighten the car, and you might actually ADD value to the car in the long run. (..backdated cars are popular right now...so re-sale would be easy.)

It's the back of your 83 which is damaged, right?

From:
83 SC coupe ROW car in Canada

I'm not so certain back dating the front as well as the back is the way to go, as much as I love that look.

Could of been worse if you had a fiberglass rear bumper, right?

Yup. I think fat is the way to go too!

Yep, thats my car that was rear ended. I hate to disagree with you BackDaters, but I have ruled that option out. I just plain and simple dont like it.

Now on the otherhand, if someone wants to buy it backdated, I will get it all done and sell it to ya!
