88' Turbo Cab Realistic Value

I am looking at an 88' Turbo Cab with 67K on it. It is triple black with a Kokeln intercooler, K27 turbo, european fuel system, 1 bar spring, and Kinesis 18" supercups on it. The car is in good to excellent condition with some road rash on front bumper and hood. Two rims have minor curb rash. It appears the drivers side front fender has been painted and some paint work on the drivers side door. The car does still look good and that is only noticeable if you really get up on it. The sport seats are in good cond. with slight wear. The car has an upgraded A/C system with an extra condenser under the car that is new. The engine has been resealed but not rebuilt. The owner has about 30K in receipts since 02' for the car. It has all new brakes, clutch, tires etc. The car has a new top, and boot cover along with a toneau. I would rate the car a 8 to 8.5 overall. I drove the car and it acted as it should and boosted about 1 bar or a little less. It has an Andial boost gauge where the clock used to be. What are some ball park values on this car. I am thinking about buying it. I have allready made an offer but he counter offered. Just trying to make sure I am on the right track with the car. I will only use it as an occassional driver. I was looking at a similiar car in Denver with same miles and mods and it sold for $40k on ebay. It had a buy it now of 32.5K. I thought the owner was bidding it up on me but he said two guy got into a bidding war and that was the price he sold it for.

Where did you get these prices? They are way off unless these for really low mileage cars...seen these regular cabs go for $15k-$21k..the ones in the upper $24k are really low mileage

Those prices look like normally aspirated cars as well. This is a Turbo Cab.

Turbo cars - especially that are under 70k miles are all over the place. I have seen them under $30 (though not for long) to over $40K.

A $32k buy it now seems like it would have been the way to go... The Turbos seem to have gone up in price just lately (I have been watching them)

I can probably buy this car for under 34K but I am not sure. I am going to call the guy in a few and see if we can strike a deal.

Low $30s would be good if you don't have to dump too much $$ into it, the real price of a car is purchase+ 1st year's "investment"...

This is where 930s can really bite you in the ass. Sounds like a hot car, though. Pictures? We like pictures around here. Good luck.

EDIT: I typed that as you were posting the pics. Looks real zesty. I like it.

Not that I am an expert. I think low 30s is about right. It has mods, especially to the turbo. That could compromise long life. Other buyers know that. It being a cab is nice, but on the other hand, the typical go-fast turbo driver may like a coupe over the cab. I would say the fact that it is a cab may not make it worth more than a coupe?

So, to sum it up, price it like a regular coupe turbo with mods. 30k or not much more seems appropriate.

Does the owner have the original wheels (Fuch's - worth a lot of $$$)

Clutch at less than 67K miles.....Hmmmm

The engine re-sealed at less than 67K miles...Hmmmm.

When you have the PPI, ask the shop to have a body person on hand to evaluate the car....

Good luck...

Hey Huck,

I am not raining on the parade..OK?

But...Porcsche's can be made to look REAL nice. When buyers are out looking...there is a tendency to fall in love with every car that looks nice.

However, the emotion/visual must be removed when completely evaluating a car. You are not talking the average 911 here. You're looking at a Turbo Cab and as Dennis mentions, you can get bit in the ass real good if you do not use the microscope.

Some of those mods may indicate some track use...Why did the engine have to be re-sealed at less than 67K miles?

An original '88 Turbo Cab at a price of 40K would be snapped up quickly....

Let your nose lead instead of the heart....If all checks out, you'll be very happy for many many years.

I have been looking for a car for over a year and have driven and flown cross country a couple times looking at cars that I turned down for one reason or another. I know it has mods but they are the mods I would do if I bought a stock one myself. I am looking through the receipts and it may not have been resealed but parts listed on one invoice are cylinder head gasket @ $295.00. The car has Euro fuel system with a fuel distributor within the last 9K all new fuel pumps within the last 6K, clutch within the last 9K. Intercooler and turbo were done 9K ago with Fuel Enrichment (Andial) unit . Intercooler is Kokeln and the turbo came from them as well as stated on invoice. Valves were adjusted 7K ago. New wastegate diaphram 5k ago. The car has had all new A/C with 3rd condenser and procooler 3k ago. All new wheel bearings in the rear were done along with a blower motor 1k ago and new brakes in the last 5k. Any more thoughts.

Don’t be so sure it sold on Ebay. I “sold” my 89 turbo on Ebay several times. The first winning bidder said he’s come by and check it out in a few weeks when he was in the area. The second winning bidder said his bid consisted of cash and his 951 where he placed a value on the 951. I had mentioned no trades in the add too. Just because the auction ends with a winning bidder does not mean it trades.

The car did not actually sell on ebay but the people stopped bidding on ebay at around 36k and started dealing with the owner directly according to him and he ended up selling it at $40k. The car looked identical only with 17'" wheels instead of 18's and it had its mods from Andial. Cars had same mileage around 65k. The car in Denver had had its pass side rear 1/4 painted according to owner. Both cars had a bout 30K in receipts. I couldn't believe the car sold for that amount and the owner couldn't either but he said two guys got into a bidding war and it sold at that price. No reason for him to lie as the car had sold and he actually called me to tell me what was up.

Looks hot and in the right colors. The mods are spot-on, and the little but expensive crap like rear bearings, turbo, fuel pumps etc have been done. No one tracks a cab, or not seriously, so I'd take that off the worry-list. Go for it around 32-34k!

i was thinking around $35K, if it's real nice. 3.3 turbos don't have head gaskets, so the $295 thing must have been something else.
