How much is a 1967 911S Targa Worth?
I'm looking at a project car. It is a 67 911S (soft rear window)Targa. The engine has webers on it and ran pretty well before the restoraton was started 5 years ago. A guy apparently got about 1/2 way through a restoration and then sold it to a body shop who has it storage.
The car has been stripped to bare metal and is still at the body shop. The guy has lots of cars and wants to get rid of it. He claims it needs about 3k in some front floor pan work and about 3k to paint. The shop does very nice work and would complete all of it for a total of about 6k. In addition I figure it will need a targa top, carpet kit, a few other interior items and then of course it needs to be all put back together. He claims to have all of the parts. How much do you people think this car is worth? Is this year more or less valuable in the world of S? How much are these worth fully restored? What else should I look for before I buy it? Any info is appreciated. Thanks. Ian |

I have a 1967 911S soft window targa and the nice ones seem to go for $30,000 or more. I know they are pretty rare but not sure of the exact numbers made. Maybe somebody will know. Good luck it sounds like you may have found a good deal. Keep us posted.

So what is special about the 67 S Targa?
I don't really know that much about this year car. I have a 72 2.4T that I have been restoring and I have been looking for a 71 or 72 e or S....
Thanks. Ian |

Funny you should ask. I saw a 1967 S coupe Thursday at a body shop in Houston that recently sold to a collector in NC for a reported $165,000. Looking closely the restoration wasn't perfect. Still it was very nice in white with red lettering and Fuchs. All I had was the phone camera. I may go back with the digital Monday for pics.

'67 prices are doing well at the moment (and last few years).
![]() It seems that the first S model is the one to complete some peoples collections and prices reflect this demand. Maybe in a few years things will turn the other way. Did someone say deficit? ![]()

According to the Red Book there were 483 '67S Targas made.
Ian, Make sure it is a '67S first and then confirm that it has the matching engine. The 901/02 engine originally came with Weber 40 IDS carbs. The chasis #s for these are: 500001S-500718S (the 'S' should be present in the stamping) The engine #s are: 961141-962178 Make note there is some discrepancy in the records for the first few years of the 911 production.

A few more 67 S questions:
Where would will I find the chasis #'s and the engine #'s? How can I identify if they are the original Webers? What were are the correct seats for this car?
What else should I look for? I believe the car may need a caliper as well since I think one is frozen. How will this car drive in comparison to my 72 2.4 MFI T? Thanks |

The chasis # is stamped on an Aluminum plate that is fastened just to the left of the front trunk latch. There is also a small raised area in the metal of the front trunk just above the fuel tank with the chasis # stamped on it.
There is a third place the chasis # is stamped and that is on the lower part of the dash just below the radio opening. This is normally covered by the knee pad trim but you should be able to see it exposed in this car because it is being restored. The engine serial # is stamped on a vertical upright just to the right of the fan. To the right of this and below is the engine type # which should be 911/02. There are 2 triple-choke Webers that should be marked with an 'S' for this engine. There are a couple of different seats this car may have come with. To find out what the matching engine # and options for this car should be you would need to obtain a Certificate of Authenticity from PCNA. If you are considering this car you should also buy some reference books and read up on what is correct for a '67S. The '67S is rated at 160bph w/ 179Nm of torque and the 2.4L MFI 'T' is 140bph w/ 200Nm of torque.
