Red face Sad day for a Targa top

Well, I finally sent the top from my 86 to Dan at Carsinc to have the rebuild done. I am excited, or was until I got a call from Dan on Saturday morning. The question that Dan asked really got me worried... "What kind of shape is the rest of the car in?" hmmm, where could this be going? "uh, Great shape actually, why?" was my response. It was from this point that Dan proceded to tell me that not only was this top involved in a 'flyoff' but it has been driven over as well, and the frame has multiple weld repairs on it... not all located properly. ARRGHHHH. Thankfully it is with Dan. He has promised with a little extra chedda, he will ensure that the top gets returned to me looking and performing like new. I can't wait to get the top back, thankfully all of you on Pelican were around to recomend Dan for repairs, I'm sure anyone else would have reskinned it and sent me on my way.

Dan's "da man" for Targa tops. Sorry to hear about the extra "chedda," but take comfort in knowing it'll be done right!

It sounds like a great day for the Targa Top.

Let us see a before and after.... Also
a price breakdown on the receipt would help alot of us.

Unfortunately, no before pics, the thought never even hit me. I will take after pics though. I can describe the before though: wavey surface when on the car, no headliner, could see how bent the aluminum panels were, less wind noise with the top off than when the top was on! I'll post completed photos when I get it. Dan's doing his stage 1,2,3 + panels, rewelds, new rear pin and other stuff on this top, all said and done a little over a grand.

That sounds like a great price to me. I had my top re-done by a professional shop that is also highly recommended on this BBS.

My top didn't have the mechanical trouble that your's has and I paid about the same.

Dan just redid my Targa Top... and it does look better than new!

Even my wife (not a Porsche supporter) has remarked regarding how good it looks. Mine had been redone in the past with lighter weight vinyl and "spider ebs" were begining to spread.

The new top fits snug, no leaks (hose test), much heavier weight vinyl and the new headliner is very heavy and tight.

You will be happy when you get it back.

BTW, Dan turned mine around in exactly one week.
