New (well, used) Porsche owner
I am soon to be picking up a 1970 911T, and I'm pretty excited. I've wanted a 'classic' Porsche for a while. I liked the 74-75ish, but found this 1970 close to me.
Here she is: ![]() As you can see, some things are different. The front bumper and rear hatch have been changed. (more to emulate the Carrera RS, from the seller's description) It's a 2.2l, 5 speed, 95k miles. The interior has been redone (with a little too much red... that will be changed eventually) recently and Recaro seats were changed for the originals. The tires and wheels look good, the engine looks good, and from the seller's description, it runs good, pulls hard, and doesn't leak. I have a few questions being a new Porsche owner. Given this is an older car, and I have no idea about the history, I plan on doing a few things ASAP. Like change the oil, filter, fuel filter, plugs, etc. What all is recommended similar to the above? What are some things I should check or be aware of? What type of oil is best for this engine? (weight, dino or synthetic, etc...) Where could I find an owner's manual or a good substitute for one? And to finish up, here's a little more eye candy. Yes, I know the passenger side front signal is busted. I found Pelican has a cover, but not the housing. Hopefully the housing is not buggered. Aside from that and the changed bumper/engine hatch... There is one more thing that is different. Your challenge... see if you can spot it, too! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

A silver 70. Cool. Looks like the first p-car I ever fell in love with. I tend to agree with your "little too much red" statement.
Anyway, Congrats! "Where could I find an owner's manual or a good substitute for one?" Ebay has them from time to time.

Congratulations and welcome to the board officially. You mentioned some other things that might be different so here are my obvious guesses:
Steering wheel Bigger tires Rear bumper pads

Fray - Great looking car. You ask what a new owner should beware of: Many new owners (me included) overfill the oil tank and casing a huge mess during the 1st oil change. I'd use a 20-50w and not synthetic. Put in about 7 qts. and then run the car until warm and check oil on a level surface with the engine idling. Top it off to 1/2 way between the upper and lower mark. Have fun....

My favorite transmission pattern!
Also, those years had a higher compression engine. And, somebody was just asking for pics of silver over red - tho I agree, a bit too much red for that one. Enjoy the hill country! As for what to do -- replace the rubber brake hoses, flush and refill with brake fluid. Change the engine and filter & trans oil, and replace the fuel filter. You can always find more things to do later on.... I think the factory manuals may be NLA. There might be some NOS ones or you can borrow someone else's and copy it. Try to find a copy of the Tech. Spec. book for your year. Any good dino oil will be fine if it is the right viscosity for your hot Tejas climate. An alt. would be Mobil One - but it might increase any leaks you have. It will surely give better protection tho.

Dude, if that was the one advertised in the Austin Paper this past weekend then you got a great deal. I was in town read the ad and expected it to be converted to look like an '80s car. If there is no rust then at $5500 asking you did great.
P.S. I really like the red interior on silver cars.

Oh, what's the best flavor gas to use in her? Thanks for the compliements. I hope she'll run good when I get her. I don't mind the alterations, but no one else has spotted the other anomaly that I mentioned.

So you are saying this car is a fallback car, instead of a '74-'75? Geeze, what a way to fallback.

Any name brand gas will be fine. I like Chevron because it has Techron and that _might_ be better than other additives.

Yeah, I like how she looks. The tail is nice, even though I usually prefer no tail. I don't mind the front bumper change either. I do think she looks pretty good. I not to hot on all the red. A little to spice it up would be nice, but I think it was overdone. No one has caught the last anomaly, tho. Hint: It's in the area of the broken turn signal. ![]() |

The right fender is from a 74 up car.

I noticed that and didn't know what it was. Looked like part of the panel was gone, then figured it out. Looks like the car was in a wreck at some point and the fender was replaced. |

Nice looking car, did you have a PPI done on it? What kind of things came out of that? Was there any rust?
