e-cams
Hi,guys,I'm building a 2.7 with early e-cams which have the extention on the back end for mfi but I'm using webers so the cams won't fit in the housings. Can I cut the extentions off flush with the back of the last bearing without disturbing anything?Thanks,T.C.

I might think about that one. I for one wouldn't. I beleive that you can take the plug out of the cam carrier and install a seal.
I'm going to use one to provide either a cam sync for an ignition or use it to drive a second distributor for a 12 plug motor. Good luck, David Duffield |

Or you might find that (and I don't know, just surmising) that the E cams have value to the MFI crowd, and you can sell or trade them for something similar, like a Solex set.

I ran a cam with the pully on my old '71 S with Webers with no problem, you just need to use a seal like David said.

I have your setup in my car. At first, I used the factory seal with the nose of the cam sticking out. Then it developed a leak. Not wanting to drop the engine just to replace the seal, I had a machine shop fabricate an aluminum block that covers and seals the area. It attaches to the cam carrier with two bolt holes and installs with a minimum of engine sheet metal removal.
This route sounds easier than R&R'ing the cams and having the nose machined off. It also provides more options for the next owner of your cams. Hope this helps, Sherwood |

I had mine machined off when I had my engine put together. I've found in the past that leaving little things like that as a possible option for myself or somebody else later never comes to fruition & just takes extra time, money & effort at the time. Of course I never plan to sell my car.

Whack it off!
That is one of the most likely seals to leak. I put solex cams in my car that had the snout on the end. I cut the extension of with a chop saw and never looked back. One less place to leak. Jess |

I used an air cut off wheel to grouve around the shaft and a whack. Clean up with a die grinder.
