Guy w Oil Cooler in Whale Tail??

So does everybody remember the guy putting the oil cooler up in the whale tale?? I think he's long gone but.......

What about an electric fan on top the IC AND an oil cooler in the whale tail???

Is this "Go fast" or "Go slow" ??? Don't be shy...

Yeah that looks like a lot of fun changing plugs, rotors, oil filters. Even putting oil in it looks to be a challenge.

That's go fast man! Sure it won't be easy to get to the stuff under the IC, but its a critical component for a high(er) boosted engine. From the looks of the installation, removal of the IC won't take more than 10 minutes. Why would an IC in the way scare anyone? You wouldn't remove the valve covers so you can get to and see the spark plugs easier would you? Nor would you leave the valve covers off so that you next valve adjustment goes faster..would you?!

All turbo's are a pain to get to anything so what's a little more. There is a company that makes CO/2 coolers for inter coolers claims 25-50 more h.p. Kit looks like a N.O.S. system but uses CO/2 $ 300.00.

I knew you were still lurking out there Souk. What about that electric fan? Can it possibly provide any benefit? CFMs at idle maybe???
And that oil cooler air flow?? Totally blocks the motor fan but maybe????
What about moments of inertia??

I'm just a dirty lurker these days I try not to get in on a thread or I'll get suckered into posting...(busy bee me be these days )

Anyhow, I will guess that the tail of that car has a cut-out in the turbo tail to pull air through the oil cooler and out the rear of the spoiler. The electric fan should help the IC at low speeds. The engine fan will suck in enough air that the heads get enough cooling...it's all a trade off when you start modifying these cars right?

I wouldn't worry too much about the cooler and IC w/r to the inertia...they are mounted pretty low ...just don't hang it 5 feet in the air unless you integrate it into a big wing ! Have you lifted a Turbo or Carrera tail lately? Them suckers ain't light.

EDIT: FYI...I'm going to use a small IC with an electric fan mounted somewhere on the car so that you won't even know it's boosted..until I shoot a flame ball out at you from my wastegate

Thad I am in the process of fabricating 2 - 7" electric fans on my intercooler in the 914. I made a duct in my rear spoiler for fresh air and will pull the air through the IC, I am fabricating duct work around the IC so the fans will pull air evenly over the entire IC and will vent it out the bottem, I have a small transmission cooler that the vented air will pass through and around. The air will exit unseen behind my rear bumper. Same theory trying to cool two things at once. Pictures will be posted sometime in the next few days. I am getting very close to getting it all together.

I'd wager that's not his only oil cooler. I'm thinking the small cooler in the tail is for turbo oil.

The "world's fastest 911" in the May, , '05 issue of Excellence describes using several separate coolant systems; water-circulated engine radiators and intercoolers and separate water-spray systems for the intake manifold and front intercooler.

Here's a club turbo with a water-sprayed intercooler:

Sherwood is right...that's an 3.2 intake under that cooler and it's likely a Carrera which will have a fender cooler at the least, and that cooler is too small as the sole external cooler. W/o the air meter, that thing must be running on MAP...and probably makes some pretty good HP!

Steve..it's a rich charge that lights off when the throttle goes from WOT to close..sometimes it doesn't have to be from WOT to close..it happens with NA cars too..
