Forum Etiquette - Off Topic Discussions in the 911 Technical Forum
Is it just me, or does it seem like there are more and more posts in this forum about non-Porsche, non-technical items? For example, this thread about Ford, while interesting, has no Porsche technical value whatsoever.
I think we all need to remember that the purpose of this forum is to share 911-related technical information. It's not the place to share random car-related information. OK, I've got my Nomex suit on. Flame away!

I know there's more traffic here, but does that justify diluting the Porsche technical content with non-Porsche stuff? I'm hoping Wayne or one of the moderators chimes in on this. I'm interested to know their thoughts. Maybe I'm off-base...

Give me a break! How many times do we see pictures of people's cars on this forum? Do any one of those threads pertain to "technical" aspects of the cars) posted? Maybe some, but not many.

Scott,
Can understand what you mean and what perturbs me are the posts on the "off topic" board that are just trolling for a fight. There is one recently that just asked for it and when several of us replied they act like "what me" and the Alfred Newman salute??!! There is another one there by Cool Chick asking about refinishing her bathtub, and one asking for help with a computer. These I have no issue with and if they knew the answer felt that they would not be posting. This is a friendly forum most of the time but at times it veers sharply to the right (or left) and is asking to hit the bridge ... Beautiful weather over here in AZ. Heading to Bermuda tomorrow for a week. Unfortunately not one 911 on the island that I have found but am still looking! Fly safe! JoeA

Polished wheels? Ride height? All of these, at least arguably, deal with 911 technical issues. So, pictures would be appropriate. Even simple vanity pictures ("look at me, my car is cool") at least deal with the 911. And Joe's right, this is a friendly place, and it has become a comunity. At some point, though, the topics become so far afield that they simply don't meet the definition of this forum -- Porsche 911 technical issues.

I'm not here to argue this post of yours or the one that I posted. You are right. My post has nothing to do with Porsches, but since we all (for the most part) are car enthusiasts, "I thought" that some would like what I posted. If I can delete it, I will.
Peace out all.

well if you want some tehnical stuff the SEARCH buton is a must. Either way, when americans wake up i have to go through 2-3 pages of new topics, mostly tehnical. And when i need something for my car SEARCH buton is the answer.
In all that time i only looked once or twice in another forum. Maybe Wayne should remove word tehnical in this forum

Scott, we've been thru this. Wayne has posted on this. He and the moderators do a stand up job. Are you bucking for a moderator's job?
Now let's see, on the Ford thread there was a comment about all the driftwood that comes up when doing a search. All I can say is that there are .83 million posts on the 911 board alone. You gonna go back and clean all that up? I guess if you don't like the "community" aspect of the board, you ought to just read ALL the tech articles and then go over and read ALL the Rennlist tech stuff. You want pure technincal? Let us know when you get through. ![]() |

It doesn't bother me in the slightest, as long as the threads have something to do with Porsche. This forum has grown to be much more than JUST technical discussions. Personally I find all aspects interesting and useful.

Doesn't bother me either. Haven't been here long but like the flavor of the forum. Lots of good stuff to read nice cars to look at and the occasional laugh. Great place to hang out

wayne, moderators...
would it be possible to install a function that would allow us to go back and edit the thread title. it might be useful if threads start to go in different directions after the initial few responses, or if they have vague titles. eg, "what do i do now?!" could be renamed "crankshaft seal replacement", and then later be named "2.4E engine rebuild"...
