Best Source for RSR Door Panels??
I am ready to buy RSR door panel kits for my 1973 to RSR Clone project. I want to buy a high quality kit that replicates the original look. I konw that many of you have installed these in your early cars.
Any recommendations on the source for the best quality kits?? How about the Appbiz kits that I see on Ebay? |
Tom - Appbiz is well known as an excellent supplier of RS door panels. I have a set from them and am very happy.

I am happy w/ the App Biz product, great service and easy to deal w/ as well.:)

Tom,
On another note, I believe we're due for update #9. |

There are two (actually three) types Appbiz offers. There's the original 911R panels, with the leather release strap that new passengers tend to try and pull the door closed with. Then there's the RS America type, which is not period correct, but is easier to work with. Then they make an RS America type with the pull relocated to work with early doors.

Jack,
By replacing the door panels to RS style would i still get the solid thump of OEM door closing ? I have been very seriously thinking about doing this mod with my car, much cleaner looks ;) Thanks |
Don't forget that Pelican carries these same panels, and I think they are even less expensive than going straight to Appbiz.
Also makes it easy to order a few other things such as door seals, window seals, door light switches, etc. at the same time to make it all nice and fresh. Don't forget the moisture barriers. My doors actually thump closed much nicer than they did before with the old beat panels and hardware. |
Panels on Pelican:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/911M/POR_911M_interi_pg17.htm#item74 The ones with APBZ in the part# are the Appbiz ones everyone raves about. I just did the leather ones on my car a couple weeks ago. |
Do I need to order the moisture barriers separate from the door panels? I thought the kit from Appbiz included the moisture barriers.
Relative to updates on my RSR project....I am in the process of rewring the car so there is not much exciting to report or show. I will post an update with photos when the wring, lights and interior are complete within the next several weeks. If anyone is interested in anything specific, let me know and I'll post some interim photos. I missed the deadline for the Parade Concours registration in Hershey. I plan to show the car at the "non-compete" car show. hope to meet some of you there. |

Yeah, I orded the die cut ones separately. They were somewhere around $7 if I remember right, and all the holes are already there. Just get something to glue it on around the edge with and you're good to go.
|
Porsche still sells the water barrier shield which is cut perfectly and has adhesive; peel and apply, no glue. Autos International makes the best door panels; the material matches perfectly, not to mention the accuracy of the trim locations. Compare Appbiz to the REAL RS/RSA panels and you'll see the difference.

Do you have to cut out holes for power window switches or can you order with holes already pre-cut?
|
On the AppBiz panels, they're shipped with a heavy-guage plastic bag holding the panels; you re-use this bag as the moisture barrier.
All of the holes you need are die cut in the panel; you simply cut the fabric/leather for the stuff you need, ie electric window switches or speakers. |

My vote APBIZ....class act.

I've seen one other post like Jpahemi's re the AppBiz.
So it may be a choice between an xlnt product and a perfect match product... decide what you want. |
