Muffler What's best with a stock 3.0 with SSIs - single out or dual out?
Hi,
I put SSIs on my car last year (stock 3.0) and I put on a Bursch dual in/single out muffler. I'm happy with the power, but not very happy with the sound. Its a bit high pitched. As I'm thinking of a RUF bumper conversion, I'm contemplating a dual in/dual out muffler. On a normally aspirated 3.0, will a dual out produce too little backpressure and impact the fuel injection mixture? Will a dual out also produce a deeper sound? Any spefic muffler suggestions? |

SSI's make the note a tad higher. I have SSI's and B&B dual in/out. It's obscenely loud, but a very nice sound. Leaves no doubt that I've arrived. I cut the right side of my rear valance with a Dremel and it came out very nicely.

Dual out sounds great but for me is too loud for the street. I have the single 2 in 1 out Dansk with SSI's and it sounds good. When I do drivers eds with my friends they call my car electric golf cart because they all have 2 outs.

I made a sport muffler by welding some new pipes and cutting some baffles into a beat-up sausage muffler. It sounds incredible. Lumpy idle smooth through midrange, screams at WOT. I love it.
I made the same muffler for Donk's 2.4T Sounds much more smooth on the low end with the smaller displacment. Has the same wail at WOT.

Hey,
I'm going to the same set up this year and I keep reading about the dual out being too loud. Can someone clarify for me? Too loud like it will wake the neighbors if I leave my house at 6 am? Do the authorities take issue with it? Will I still be able to hear the radio? I've heard some sample files of Ben's online but it is truly hard to get any context of the volume.... Hope I'm not hijacking... Adam

My radio is sort of pointless now. Better than nothing, but not much sound quality anymore. I live in a condo complex, so firing her up early in the morning is a real no no. Luckily, I have very cool neighbors and even the ones with small kids are car buffs and like seeing my 911 around, as well as those of others who come around to wrench with me. But when I have to leave real early for a DE or upcoming Hershey, it makes me nervous to fire her up. To make it worse, my WUR is no good, so I jave to let her idle for 2 min. before I pull away. When I come home, I coast in neutral, since it's all downhill. I honestly fear being near cops in traffic. I'm positive a good throttle blip would get the equipment-compliance gestapo after me.

I have a 3.0 SSIs and dual outlets. It's a bit louder than a standard 3.0 but not objectionably so. The rest of my exhaust system was homebrewed by my mechanic when the 3.0 was in his car so notreally comparable to anything else. Bursch is supposed to be deep and loud but yours is high pitched? odd

i opted out of the bursch after reading up on them here. i have all the parts for my ssi job on my sc, and sent the bursch back for a dansk 2in/1out stock type unit. i don't want to be too loud so i suspect i am on the right track for my needs.

SSI's and a dual in/out Monty. Sound great. Loud but not wake the neighborhood loud. Sounds deep and throaty. A pleasure to the ears. Especially when windin in up at the track. I havent turned on the radio since I installed it.
