Value Question Please 1969 911E
I have the opportunity to buy a very well cared for 1969 911E. It appears to be for the most part original.
It is SILVER cool! The only bad thing I can find is that I think it has had the floor replace at one point or at least a section of it. I plan on getting it up on the lift in the next few days to inspect. Motor was rebuilt recently and it runs awesomely. What would be a fair deal? What would be a good deal? And What is too freakin Much??? Thanks in advance! Jay |
There's no way to know without a PPI. Find a good shop to run over it for you. It is money well spent.
|
yeah, I get the PPI thing. I also know my way around these cars well enough to determine if it is a good car.
What is a '69E (coupe) as described above worth? i.e. no visible rust, clean orignal motor, clean interior, good paint, fuchs (2 sets) |
I'd pay somewhere between $15K and $20K, depending on how perfect it is. There was beautiful fully restored RGruppe E for sale at $25K recently, so I am discounting from there. There is still a good disaprity between E and S cars, but I am betting the Es take off when the S cars become completely unaffordable.
Let me know if you decide not to buy it. ;) |
Any floor pan replacement raises something of a red flag. If rust was able to develop there there is a good chance it has developed in other places, maybe yet to be seen.
Assuming this is not the case the 2 main factors are going to be condition & originality. I would say if everything is excellent (although not concours) & the paint is original then $16-$20k would be fair. If it is a repaint subtract a couple thousand. If a color change maybe take off another couple thousand. |
Pictures would really help as a clean car may not always have the correct parts. Many of these parts are very difficult to locate and will certainly affect the value of the cars. As an example, are the Fuchs the deep 15x6" wheels that are period correct. They may also be 14" or later 15x6. This will affect the value by maybe $500.00 in itself. Correct hood badge? What kind of options does it have? Sport seats? Through the grill fog lamps?
Lot of variables on these early cars. Of course, rust is the big factor! |
I bought my 70 911e 4 years ago, very well cared for, new floor pans only rust issue was a small area under the battery tray. The guy was starting a new business and needed $$. He said he was asking $6500, I said don't go anywhere I'll be right back. I considered it a steal. Don't know if this helps or not since it was 4 years ago.
|
It comes with 14 in fuchs and later 15x6 fuchs.
It does not have sport seats. It does have through the grill fog lamps. No clue on the hood badge ...not terribly concerned honestly. I don't have any pics yet. I have seen it twice and it is clean ...not a restored show car but a real nicely preserved clean driver. |
oh yeah, the MFI is all there and in very good working order.
|
What is he asking or is he waiting for you to offer a price?
|
What you should pay is as little as you can -- but isn't that true in any negotiation?
Here are some data points to help you narrow it down some. Note the closing prices and the number of bids. These represents what real people were willing to pay with real money. Essentially your competition in bidding for the 1969E coupe. Here are some other examples from recent completed eBay auctions for LWB/Long hood cars. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1111516481.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1111516578.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1111516606.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1111516630.jpg Keep in mind that the "Reserve not met" auctions shouldn't count since the buyer and seller didn't reach a deal. To put it differently, there were no buyers willing to pay the seller's desired price, so the seller's expectations were unreasonable from an economic standpoint. |
I must have "Stole" my 1969 911E non sunroof coupe three years ago. The motor was in peices, but complete without any bad rust (some surface rust).
I paid $2500 :) and hauled it away. The owner was asking $4000. The old owner was a VW guy and had the motor out. He realized he was over his head and it sat for years. I was happy to clean him out. |
I think if someone could post the Anderson prices, that would help. I think they are reasonable (unlike the SC and Carrera prices) and they will give you a good basis to negotiate on.
I can not see why you'd pay 15k and up. George |
With a documented rebuild and thorough inspection that comes back decent, that sounds like a $20k car (fair), $15k (cheap), but $25k would be too much.
Floor replacement is no big deal, in my opinion. Where are you naysayers seeing good solid 69E coupes for under $15k in #2/3 condition? There weren't many of these made in the first place. If the numbers above are way out of line, I'd really like to know as I have a 69E that I plan to restore. Also, I'd be very interested in knowing what kind of rebuild was performed on that 2.0. Aren't these motors of the ilk that aren't economically feasible to rebuild? |
Current Bruce Anderson prices are "Poor" $10,944 "Good" $12443 and "Excellent" $16,658.
BA's early 911 values went up signifigantly this month. He has taken a lot of heat for under-valuing early "S"s. The above prices are probably not too far out of line. |
How much of a price difference per BA for a 69 S - is it really that much more?
This sounds like a $15K car to me unless everything feels very fresh and all maintenance is up to date. Otherwise spend on adding $5K in short order to get the car feeling new again. |
An S in the condition of what the E sounds like is probably $30K, especially if it has matching numbers, original paint and no rust...no, I am not smoking crack. Esses are not cheap anymore.
|
Thanks Kenik - I actually have a 69S that I may be selling due to a change in life priorities. I was curious what BA had these listed at (sorry to hijack) -
My car is numbers matching, non original paint (but very nice), with real RS flares, RS style interior, etc. etc. I was wondering if I may be able to get close to $20K out of it. |
